Members of the Leflore County Board of Supervisors, including Eric Mitchell, Robert Collins, and Reginald Moore, along with County Administrator Cynthia Stanciel, Greenwood Mayor Kenderick Cox, and Shane Correro of Willis Engineering, met with Congressman Bennie Thompson, to discuss key issues affecting Leflore County and the Mississippi Delta. The meetings were held in the Nationโs Capital from June 1 โ 4, 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to secure federal support for critical county and municipal priorities.
During the meetings, local leaders discussed several important subject matters, including:
โข The status of new pumping stations funded for Leflore County Districts 2, 4, and 5.
โข Efforts to preserve rural healthcare services in the Mississippi Delta, with a primary focus on Greenwood Leflore Hospital.
โข Infrastructure grant funding opportunities for the upcoming fiscal year to improve waste water and drinking water.
โข Law enforcement grant funding opportunities for the upcoming fiscal year to assist with patrol vehicles and equipment.
โข Federal grant funding for a proposed multi-purpose storm shelter and recreational complex serving the City of Greenwood and Leflore County.
