Since that time, the city has been protected by fire professionals who have dedicated their lives to serving their community. Please allow us to be a little vulnerable and candid with you in this post.

On April 23rd the Greenwood Fire Department hosted its annual awards and swearing in ceremony. It was a fantastic night! Micah Rains Captain with the City of Greenville Fire provided a key note reminding our personnel of their duty to the job, the department, each other and our community.

Many of our members were honored and sworn in. Before we made a post honoring our members the unthinkable happened. Greenwood City Police Officer DJ Keller was killed in the line of duty. Many of the same members honored responded to this incident. Following DJ’s death, it didn’t seem like the time or place to make this post. We needed time to process and to grieve. We humbly ask that you would allow us to celebrate these well deserving members now.

- For actions taken off duty as a member of Northwest Volunteer Fire Department where despite high heat and zero visibility Firefighter Amiri entered the structure and assisted with the removal of a victim.

The City of Greenwood Fire Department would like to congratulate Fire Marshal Tim Warner on his retirement after 28 years of dedicated service. Fire Marshal Warner started his career in 1998 as a firefighter and worked his way through the ranks of driver/operator, Lieutenant, Captain and finally Fire Marshal. Fire Marshal Warner was part of several major fires, technical rescues and statewide deployment during his storied career. Fire Marshal Warner was joined by his family, friends, retirees and current employees who celebrated his retirement. Please help us celebrate and thank him for his years of service to the City of Greenwood!

Join us in congratulating Firefighter Awston Pardue for successfully completing his probationary period with the Greenwood City Fire Department!

Firefighter Pardue began his career with our department in September 2025 and graduated from the SC Fire Academy recruit school in December. Since that time, he has went through many hours of additional training to reach this goal. He is currently assigned to Engine 1 on A-Shift.

Last week, his abilities were put to the test as he successfully completed a physical workout followed by a rigorous, scenario-based training exercise that every firefighter must complete at the end of their probationary period.

We are excited to announce that the Greenwood City Fire Department has been designated as a 2025 Fire Safe Community for the second year in a row!

This designation highlights our ongoing commitment to reducing fire-related injuries and making our community a safer place to live. This achievement wouldn't be possible without the continued dedication of our personnel, the support of our local leaders, and our community.

This award was presented last Saturday at the SC Fire Rescue Conference in Myrtle Beach along with five other fire departments in Greenwood County!

We are proud to recognize one of our own, Firefighter/Apparatus Operator Nak Amiri, for receiving the Meritorious Action Award!

Firefighter Amiri is currently the chauffeur of Tower 1 on C-Shift. He, along with Firefighter Sean Wargny of the Greenwood County Fire Service, were presented this honor Saturday evening at the 2026 South Carolina Fire Rescue Conference in Myrtle Beach during the annual Awards Banquet.

Last year, Greenwood County fire departments were dispatched to a structure fire with reports of entrapment. Although off duty at the time, Firefighter Amiri, who also volunteers with Northwest Fire Department, saw the call on his phone and responded to the scene. Upon arrival, a home was found well involved with fire. Firefighter Sean Wargny was on the first arriving engine company. FF Amiri quickly made entry through a bedroom window using VES (Vent, Enter, Search) and successfully located a victim. FF Wargny then joined him, and both firefighters removed the victim from the residence in under 4 minutes of their arrival time.

The meritorious action award is given annually by the SC State Firefighters Association who describes it as follows: “This award is intended to recognize firefighters and/or fire departments, which have rendered services beyond the ordinary course of duty in an attempt to save a life regardless of the success of the action. Nominees for the award should be recognized because they reflect the vigilance and professionalism of firefighters across the State.”

The meritorious action award perfectly describes the quick actions of Firefighters Amiri and Wargny. They both are dedicated firefighters who constantly seek to better prepare themselves for incidents such as this. We could not be more proud of both of them and are especially grateful to have Firefighter Amiri as part of our department!

The Greenwood City Fire Department is proud to announce the promotion of Daniel Manley to the rank of Lieutenant!

Lieutenant Manley is currently assigned to Engine 2 on C-Shift. He brings 20 years of dedicated service to the City of Greenwood. His experience and knowledge will continue to be a valuable asset to our department in this new role.

On June 5th at approximately 6:45pm, Greenwood City Fire was dispatched to a structure fire in the area of Crescent Rd. along with units from the Greenwood County Fire Service. Greenwood County Engine 16 (responding from Northwest VFD) arrived on scene to find heavy smoke and fire coming from a dwelling. Greenwood City Engine 1, assisted Engine 16 with fire attack while Greenwood City Tower 1 performed vertical ventilation and searched the structure. Numerous other units responded from the Greenwood County Fire Service. The cause of the fire is still under investigation and no injures were reported.
