🎃 Halloween Safety Tips from Your Fire Department! 👻

As your little ghosts and superheroes get ready for a night of trick-or-treating fun (Greenwood Trick or Treat times are 6:00pm-8:30pm), here are a few tips to help keep everyone safe:

🔥 Costume Safety:

Choose costumes made with flame-resistant materials.

Make sure costumes fit properly to prevent trips and falls.

Add reflective tape or glow sticks so trick-or-treaters are visible after dark.

🚸 Walking Safety:

Always use sidewalks and crosswalks.

Walk — don’t run — between houses.

Stay with a group and keep an eye out for vehicles.

🏠 Home Safety:

Keep porch lights on and walkways clear for visitors.

Use battery-operated candles in pumpkins instead of real flames.

Double-check that all decorations are safe and not blocking exits.

🚒 A Time-Honored Tradition Continues!

Today, we celebrated the Push-In Ceremony for Engine 51, joined by Chaplain Dustin Hite, Fire Chief Jeremy Pell, Captain Casey Arkins, and many crews and employees of White River Township Fire Department.

The “push-in” ceremony is a deeply rooted fire service tradition that honors our history and the generations of firefighters who came before us. In the days of hand carts and horse-drawn engines, firefighters would un-hitch their horses and push their equipment back into the station after every call — making sure they were always ready for the next one.

While much has changed, this tradition continues as a symbol of teamwork, dedication, and readiness to serve our community. Many departments, including ours, also celebrate with a “wet down” — wetting the new engine with tank water from the one it replaces — a symbolic passing of service from one rig to the next.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made today possible. ❤️
With pride and tradition, we officially welcome Engine 51 home — ready to serve the citizens of White River Township.
