Now that all the absentee votes have been counted, the results in Greenwood’s mayoral election are clear, and Kenderick Cox will be our new mayor. I have spoken with Mr. Cox to congratulate him on his victory and to offer my full support as he prepares to become the next mayor of Greenwood.

I want to thank the voters of Greenwood for the honor of serving as your mayor for the past 16 years. It has truly been the privilege of a lifetime. I have loved this city since I was a little girl, and I will continue to love it every day for the rest of my life.

This is a moment to look back with pride, and to look ahead with hope.

Together, over four terms, we’ve made incredible progress. We’ve built new recreational amenities, improved neighborhoods, revitalized our downtown, and strengthened public safety. We’ve invested in infrastructure, secured millions in grants, modernized city buildings, and kept Greenwood financially strong. We’ve faced challenges head-on and we have always found a way forward…together.

I’m proud of what we accomplished. And I’m even prouder of the spirit in which we did it—with steady hands, open doors, and a commitment to treating everyone with fairness and respect.

But this is not just about what has come before. It’s about what comes next.

Now is the time for Greenwood to unite behind its next mayor. I stand ready to assist Mr. Cox in ensuring a smooth and seamless transition so that the work of the city continues without interruption. Because at the end of the day, this has never been about any one person. It’s about Greenwood and what we can achieve when we work together.

To my incredible campaign team, our volunteers, supporters, and every resident who has ever walked through my office door to share a concern or an idea—thank you. You have blessed me with your trust, your encouragement, and your partnership. I will always be grateful for your faith in me.

Greenwood is a special place. And while this chapter of my public service is coming to a close, I remain filled with hope for our future. We have what it takes to keep moving forward. We are resilient, we are proud, and we are full of potential.

I ask everyone to give Mayor-Elect Cox your support and your prayers. Leading a city is hard work, and no one does it alone. If we work together with grace and goodwill, I believe Greenwood’s best days are still ahead.

Thank you again for the opportunity to serve you. I will always be cheering for this city we all love. May God bless you, and may God bless the City of Greenwood.

With gratitude,
Carolyn McAdams

I want to sincerely thank every single person who voted today and supported my campaign for re-election. Serving as Mayor of Greenwood has been one of the greatest honors of my life, and I’m deeply grateful for the encouragement, friendship, and trust so many of you have shown me throughout this campaign.

I also want to thank Kenderick Cox for a well-fought race and for his willingness to step forward in service to our wonderful community. Running for office is never easy, and I commend him and his team for their efforts.

Tonight’s unofficial results show that we are behind in the in-person vote count, and while we recognize the odds may not be in our favor, we believe it is important to respect the process and wait until every vote has been counted. More than 320 absentee ballots, over 100 mail-in absentee votes, and more than 175 affidavit ballots have yet to be tallied, and those voters deserve to have their voices heard just like everyone else.

As we await the final results, I remain proud of the campaign we ran, the record we stood on, and the vision we offered for Greenwood’s future. Thank you again for your support, your kindness, and your belief in what we’ve accomplished together. 💚

Dear Friend,

When I was first asked to run for mayor in 2009, I had no political ambitions. My career had been in the business sector, and I honestly thought they had the wrong person. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized how much I loved this city, and how I felt the need to serve it.

Sixteen years later, I can say with confidence that being Mayor of Greenwood has been the greatest honor of my life.

This city has come a long way. We have made our neighborhoods cleaner and safer, strengthened our municipal finances, and invested in city infrastructure. We’ve also supported local businesses, cared for our city employees, and helped build the kind of hometown we can all be proud of.

But I’m not done.

There is still more to accomplish, and I believe I have the leadership, experience, and determination to keep moving us in the right direction. This election is not about the past; it’s about the future. It’s about whether we build on the momentum we’ve created, or hand the city over to someone with little experience and no plan.

I’ve shown up every day for 16 years, not because it’s easy, but because I care. I care about the people who live here. I care about our neighborhoods, our schools, our children, and our future. If you believe in proven leadership, steady hands, and forward motion, then I am respectfully asking for your vote tomorrow.

Polls will be open tomorrow from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. If you need to know where to vote, you can find a neighborhood map and a list of voting precincts on our campaign website (linked below).

Thank you for the opportunity to serve you. Now, let’s finish the work we’ve started and keep Greenwood moving forward!

With gratitude,
Carolyn

There’s not another city in the Mississippi Delta that’s accomplished as much as Greenwood has over the past 16 years.

We’ve paved streets, repaired sidewalks, renovated swimming pools and city buildings. We’ve built new recreation spaces like Rail Spike Park and the Yazoo River Trail, revitalized the farmers market, restored the train station, and constructed a brand new wastewater treatment plant. And that’s just a portion of it—the list goes on.

None of this progress happened by chance. It takes steady leadership and a mayor who understands how to run a city like a business. Behind every project is a mountain of paperwork, fiscal oversight, and coordination across multiple partners and agencies. That’s what I’ve spent my career learning, and what I’ve delivered as your mayor.

I hope you’ll take a moment to look over the timeline of what we’ve accomplished together. And when you do, I hope you’ll vote on Tuesday to keep the progress going. Greenwood is the crown jewel of the Delta, and with your support, we can make sure it stays that way!

Make a plan to vote this Tuesday, June 3. Let’s keep getting things done for Greenwood!

I want to congratulate Senator David Jordan, who has announced his retirement from the Mississippi Legislature after 32 years of service. Over the years, he’s been a teacher, a civil rights leader, a city councilmember, and a steady voice for his constituents in Greenwood.

Throughout his career, he never stopped fighting for his constituents, both in Greenwood and throughout his Senate district. During the years we served together as Mayor and City Councilmember, he always wanted to ensure that we were “all in one accord.” It was a sign that he knew a thing or two about leadership and working together for the greater good.

During my early years as mayor, we didn’t always agree on every issue. But over time, I earned Senator Jordan‘s trust, and we were able to work together to move Greenwood forward. His decades of service on the Greenwood City Council and in the Mississippi Legislature are to be commended.

At 92 years young, he has more than earned his retirement, and I wish him all the best as he returns home to spend time with Christine, his beloved wife of 71 years. Please join me in wishing Senator Jordan a happy retirement! 🎉👏

Rebuilding the Heart of Greenwood

Downtown is the soul of our city—and when I became mayor, it needed attention. We went to work restoring sidewalks, installing historic lighting, and improving streetscapes on Howard, Johnson, Main, and Fulton Streets. We’ve supported Main Street businesses with grants to restore more than 50 historic facades.

These aren’t just pretty projects—they’ve brought energy and investment back to our city center. A vibrant downtown attracts visitors, supports local entrepreneurs, and brings us together as a community. If you want to see more progress and more life in downtown Greenwood, I ask for your support on Tuesday, June 3.
