Congratulations to everyone who graduated this weekend’s CPR, AED & Stop The Bleed training, hosted by Kirk of the Hills Presbyterian Church of Fairfield Bay.

Organizer, Jerry Thompson said “The goal of the training was to certify members of the church in the correct use of the Automatic Electronic Defibrillators (AED) and other first aid equipment in case of an emergency. This way several people are familiar with the life saving resources available if needed.”

Heat exhaustion vs. heat stroke – know the difference!

Heat exhaustion is not usually serious if you can cool down within 30 minutes. If it turns into heat stroke it needs to be treated as an emergency.

Preventing heat exhaustion and heat stroke

There’s a high risk of heat exhaustion or heat stroke during hot weather and exercise.

To help prevent these:

Drink plenty of cold drinks, especially when exercising
Take cool baths or showers
Wear light-coloured, loose clothing
Sprinkle water over skin or clothes
Avoid the sun between 11am and 3pm
Avoid excess alcohol
Avoid extreme exercise
This will also prevent dehydration and help your body keep itself cool.

Keep an eye on children, the elderly and people with long-term health conditions (like diabetes or heart problems) because they’re more at risk of heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

"Stop the Bleed"
This is a fun event for people of all ages to learn how to stop bleeding in case of an emergency. Learn the do's & don'ts and how to save yourself or someone else!

Custom Events
Invite us to your Church, Club, Business, or other social gathering, if you would like us to provide training for your event or group. We offer CPR, First Aid, Stop the bleed and other courses and presentations to help keep you safe and informed.

GFEMS was delighted to participate in the Community Helpers program for West Side Pre-K earlier this week.

The children were excited to experience the hands on tour of our ambulance and there were many interesting questions such as:
How fast are we allowed to drive?
What are the doors on the side?
Do we get a lot of sick people?
What are the supplies used for?

Thank you West Side School for including us in your event and thank you to our volunteers, Susan Sheets and Jada Sharp.

A BIG PART OF THE COMMUNITY

To improve the night visibility and safety of our ambulance, the reflective coating needed to be updated.

We took the opportunity to go green to match the color scheme of the City and West Side School.

Although we are not funded by the city, we are a big part of the community.

Greers Ferry EMS is a 501(c) not-for-profit service for the residents of Greers Ferry. All of our staff are volunteers
