This afternoon, members of Gregory Volunteer Fire Department had the pleasure of participating in the Cinco de Mayo Festival hosted by Stephen F. Austin Elementary School PTO right here in Gregory.

Events like this are a reminder of why we do what we do. Serving this community goes well beyond emergency response. We are proud to show up for our neighbors whenever we can, and today was no exception.

Thank you to the SFA PTO for putting on a great event for our community!

🚨Update🚨 FM 136 is now back open to traffic

Gregory Fire Department is currently on scene of a semi-truck vs. car collision on FM 136.

⛔ FM 136 is CLOSED at this time.

The semi was loaded at the time of the crash and a hazmat team will need to transfer the diesel fuel before the semi can be removed from the roadway. This will be an extended closure, please plan accordingly.

Please avoid the area and use alternate routes. We will provide updates as the situation develops. Thank you for your patience as our crews and hazmat personnel work the scene safely.

April is Autism Awareness Month 💙

At Gregory Fire Department, we’re committed to serving every member of our community and that includes recognizing, understanding, and supporting individuals with autism and their families.

Autism affects how people communicate, interact, and experience the world. For first responders, that means every call may require a different approach more patience, clear communication, and awareness of sensory sensitivities.

This month is about more than awareness. It’s about acceptance, understanding, and support. We encourage our community to take the time to learn, show kindness, and help create an environment where everyone feels safe and respected.

If you or a loved one has specific needs during an emergency, don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here to serve you.

Gregory Fire Department has been awarded by Texas A&M Forest Service with two more grants for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and for Training Equipment. Thank You!

Texas A&M Forest Service has awarded an additional $14 million in grants to Texas volunteer fire departments through the Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program.

This funding marks the third scheduled distribution of a historic $192 million legislative allocation, the largest single appropriation in the program's history. These grants support requests for personal protective equipment and training aids, helping departments strengthen readiness and response capabilities across the state.

With this third round of funding, nearly $195 million has been distributed to volunteer fire departments since October 2025.

Gregory Fire Department recently hosted a Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) course focused on Electric Vehicle (EV) lithium-ion battery awareness.

This training provided firefighters with critical information on the hazards, behavior, and response considerations associated with lithium-ion batteries. Not only those found in electric vehicles, but also in everyday items such as electric scooters, power tools, and other rechargeable devices that are increasingly present in homes, businesses, and vehicles.

As battery powered technology continues to grow in our community, understanding how these batteries react during fires, thermal runaway events, and post-incident operations is essential for firefighter safety and effective emergency response.

Gregory Fire Department remains committed to ongoing training and preparedness to better serve and protect our community.

The combination of wind gusts up to 30 mph and low relative humidity values of 20-40% will lead to elevated fire weather conditions through the afternoon into early evening. Therefore, a Fire Danger Statement for elevated fire concerns is in effect through 8 pm this evening. Residents should avoid open flames or sparks. Keep vehicles of dry grass and properly discard ci******es.
