Something you can do to give yourself some extra protection against property fraud.

Recently we have had two incidents in which residents reported being the victims of fraud in which someone claiming to be with a federal branch of law enforcement called them and told them their bank accounts or identity had been compromised. In both cases, the victims were sent images of legitimate looking government identification and badges. They were told that they needed to cooperate with an investigation by transferring large sums of money or they would be in trouble. The suspects told the victims not to talk to bank employees about it as they suspected the bank was in on the crime they were allegedly investigating.

Please know that law enforcement personnel will never call you and tell you to transfer money. This scam takes many forms, some of which are posting bail money for a relative, sending money for someone that is in the hospital, or as part of an investigation. If someone claiming to be an officer threatens to prosecute you to get you to send money, they are not a real officer. Hang up and call your local police to report it. If you are in Livingston County, call Livingston County Central Dispatch at 517-546-9111 and they will have the appropriate agency contact you.

This handsome fellow was found wandering in the area of Williamsville Rd near Roepke Rd. He is currently a guest of the Livingston County Animal Shelter but has expressed a desire to return home. If you know his owner, please give them a heads up or contact us so we can reach out to them. Another dog was seen with this guy but would not let the finder get close.
