Addison Heenen is this year‘s Rosebud Electric/ Basin Electric $2500 scholarship winner. Addison is a senior at Winner High School and plans to attend USD in Vermilion this fall and major in nursing. She is the daughter of Casey and Kari Heenan.

Rosebud Electric has hired Technology Inspections out of Sioux Falls to do pole testing in the City of Gregory. They will be testing all the poles in the city limits, including IP poles that might be on private property. During the inspections, they will be driving a gray Ford pick up truck and a side-by-side going from pole to pole to do the inspections.

Asia VanDerWerff and Dani Timanus are pictured dropping off 50 boxes of cereal to the holiday cereal drive at Rosebud Electric. This donation was on behalf of the Gregory High School student council. Money raise from the hat and pajama day at the Gregory school was used to buy the cereal . Rosebud Electric wants to thank the students and faculty at the Gregory School Distric for this generous donation.

The 2025 holiday cereal drive sponsored by Rosebud Electric and Frontier Motors is now underway. Last year over 600 boxes of cereal were donated to this great cause. You can donate to the drive by bringing your cereal boxes to Rosebud Electric in Gregory, Frontier Motors in Winner or First Fidelity Bank in Bonesteel.

Rate Increase.

On Jan. 1st, 2026, Rosebud Electric will implement a 5% rate increase. This increase is necessary due to a 15% wholesale power cost increase, and the continuing rise of material costs.

Over the past 10 years, the cost of materials used in every day operations at Rosebud Electric has risen dramatically. For instance, the price of wire has gone up over 130%, poles have increased over 240% and the cost of transformers went up over 180% .

Rosebud Electric wants to thank our members for their understanding in this matter, it was a decision not made lightly. The cooperative prides itself in providing cheap and reliable electricity to its members.

Rosebud Electric will be having a planned power outage on Tuesday, September 23 from 9 AM to 5 PM. This outage will affect all members east of Fairfax to the Fort Randall Dam. The town of Fairfax should not be affected by this outage. WAPA ( Western Area Power Association) will be doing maintenance in the Bonesteel substation. To do so, they will have to de-energize the substation. If you have any questions, please call our office at 605-835-9624.

Thanks to all who attended the Rosebud Electric Cooperative Annual Meeting Monday the 15th of September.
During the meeting I miss spoke about the Basin Electrics load growth. I stated that their load growth also included Data Centers.
Any Large Loads such as Data Centers will be governed under Basin Electric's new Board-approved Large Load Program, which insulates existing members from paying for new generation to support these loads. Basin continues to have large load growth due to the Bakken oil field and the Southern Power Pool, (SPP) changes in the amount of reserve power margin requirements.
