This morning, crews from Gresham Fire, Portland Fire, Fire District 10 and the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office responded to an ammonia leak at Townsend Farms on Sandy Boulevard between 230th and 238th avenues in Fairview. The block around the facility was closed off, and people were evacuated to the nearby Walmart while crews responded to the hazardous materials event.

The leak has been located and addressed. Crews will maintain an active scene while the lingering ammonia dissipates. We will continue to provide updates here.

05/25/2026

We have closed Northeast Sandy Boulevard from Northeast 223rd Avenue to Northeast 238th Avenue to allow Gresham Fire to safely manage an incident at Townsend Farms.

There is no ETA on when the roadway will be re-opened.

Gresham Fire will be the point of contact for all release of information.

Wishing you a safe Memorial Day holiday as we remember those we have lost in dedicated service to others.

Clear it out before fire moves in.
Leaves, needles, bark mulch, and wood debris around decks and fences can catch fire fast.
Clean the surface
Clear underneath
Keep the area around structures debris-free
Don’t give embers a place to call home.

Why are we calling our video newsletter “Fully Involved”? In the fire service, “fully involved” describes a maximum-intensity scene where everything is engaged—and that’s exactly what this newsletter is all about. It’s a nod to fire lingo, but also to our deep commitment to being fully involved with the community we serve. Watch the latest episode! City of Gresham - Government
