Ten years ago, the Gretna City Commission made a commitment to rebuild and strengthen our community, one brick at a time. Through hard work, strategic planning, and the patience of our residents, that commitment has led to significant public and private investment throughout Gretna.

Today, Governor Ron DeSantis and Florida Commerce Secretary Alex Kelly presented the City Commission with an additional $1.25 million investment to support roadway improvements and continued upgrades to the City’s wastewater treatment plant.

The foundation continues to grow stronger, creating new opportunities for our residents, businesses, and future generations.

Congratulations to Freeman Bishop III, who has been appointed as the new Chief of Police for the City of Gretna Police Department!

Chief Bishop has dedicated 26 years of service to the Gretna community and has built a reputation for professionalism, integrity, and leadership. From patrol operations and investigations to department accreditation and officer development, he has played a vital role in strengthening our police department.

"Freeman Bishop has given this community 26 years of steady, principled service," said City Manager Antonio Jefferson. "I am confident he is the right leader for this department and for our residents."

Please join us in welcoming Chief Bishop to his new role as he leads the Gretna Police Department into its next chapter of service, accountability, and community engagement.

Thank you to a wonderful community of support that join us today for the Grand Opening of Love Travel Stop Gretna. Thanks goes out to Florida Secretary Commerce Alex Kelly and the amazing team at Florida Commerce, Gadsden County Board of County Commissioners, Gadsden County, FL, Development Council, Big Bend Minority Chamber of Commerce, Gadsden County Chamber of Commerce, Senator Corey Simon, Representative Gallop Franklin, Sheriff Morris Young, Quincy City Commissioner Beverly Nash, Former Gretna Mayors Nadine Reed, Clarence Jackson, Earnest O'Barkley, and most importantly Love's Travel Stops for making today a reality in the City of Gretna. While many may feel the opening of a travel stop in Gretna is not a big deal, yes, it is! Love's Travel Stops has hired over 100 people most of which are citizens of Gadsden County, a total of $27 million dollars of capital investment. Yes, that is a big deal. If, you don't believe it stop by the travel center and ask one of Love's employees "is this a big deal?"
