Just hours after his grandfather called 911 to report he had stolen cash, Jarrell Jones brutally stabbed the 70-year-old man and his 60-year-old friend to death in their Marrero home. Between them, the victims suffered 68 stab wounds.

“The evidence in this case shows that he brutally and mercilessly attacked two old men in their home because he was mad that he was caught taking money,” Assistant District Attorney Zach Grate told jurors in closing argument Thursday. “That’s what their lives meant to him.”

Terry Reed, 66, a pastor who ministered from his North Marlin Court residence in Terrytown, mentored the teenaged boys who had troubled home lives. He allowed them to move in with him and used bible verses and scripture to manipulate, normalize and justify his s*xual behavior with them. “He has preyed on these very, very troubled boys who don’t have a father figure in their lives,” Assistant District Attorney James Wascom told jurors in closing argument Wednesday.
