National Dog Day is the perfect time to introduce two of Griffin’s newest four-legged public safety partners: GPD K-9 Bella and Griffin Fire-Rescue K-9 Delilah!

Bella is a 2-year-old Labrador trained in electronic detection and emotional support. Working alongside Investigator Kevin Hill, Bella can locate hidden digital storage devices including cell phones, SD cards, computers, tablets, USB drives, and cameras that may contain critical evidence, particularly in investigations involving crimes against children. She can also provide a calming presence for children and adults affected by abuse or trauma.

Bella was purchased and donated to the Griffin Police Department by the National Computer Forensics Institute, a division of the United States Secret Service. She received specialized training through Jordan Detection K9.

Delilah is a 1½-year-old Labrador Retriever trained to detect trace amounts of more than 60 ignitable liquids, even after a fire has burned. Alongside Captain Brent Burke, a fire investigator with 26 years of experience, Delilah will help Griffin Fire-Rescue investigators identify evidence and determine how fires began.

These specialized K-9s bring valuable skills that strengthen investigations, support victims, and help our public safety professionals serve the Griffin community. Please join us in welcoming Bella and Delilah, and wishing them a happy !

You may notice Griffin Fire-Rescue crews inspecting and testing fire hydrants throughout the City. This routine maintenance helps ensure our hydrants are operational, accessible, and ready to provide the water needed during an emergency.

Regular hydrant inspection and testing also help Griffin Fire-Rescue maintain its ISO Class 1 rating, the highest Public Protection Classification awarded by the Insurance Services Office. This distinction reflects the strength of our community's fire protection capabilities, including emergency response, water supply, equipment, training, and other critical resources.

During testing, changes in water flow can stir up naturally occurring sediment within water lines and may temporarily cause discoloration. If you experience discolored water or need to report an issue, please contact the City of Griffin Water & Wastewater Department at 770-229-6424.

THANK YOU, Orrs, for inviting us to partner with you to make a difference and encourage students to achieve their dreams while gaining an education. We appreciate to see these students succeed!

Three years ago, Helpful Heroes, the non-profit organization for the City of Griffin Fire Department, launched a new initiative to support local teachers by adopting elementary school classrooms in the Griffin-Spalding School District. This year, 2nd and 5th grade classrooms at Jackson Road Elementary School and Moore Elementary School were selected. Each teacher had their $250 wish list purchased for them, helping make the 2026-2027 school year a success.

Strong public safety starts with strong partnerships! Griffin Fire-Rescue joined Spalding County Fire Department for a large-facility tour at U-Haul, providing an opportunity to become more familiar with the facility, share knowledge, and strengthen coordination before an emergency happens.

As fellow public safety professionals, we know the value of training, preparing, and working together. Whether it is Police, Fire, or one of our many public safety partners, that teamwork helps us all be better prepared to serve and protect our community.

Members of the Griffin Police Department recently stopped by Kiosko Venezia, a new coffee shop in Downtown Griffin, and received an extra special welcome! The owners’ children created artwork for our officers to take with them; a thoughtful gesture that certainly made their visit memorable.

Thank you to Kiosko Venezia and their family for the warm welcome and for showing your support for the men and women who serve our community. The Griffin PD is always excited to see new businesses join our community! Be sure to stop by and welcome them to the neighborhood at 315 West Solomon Street
