Spalding County Fire Department had the pleasure of visiting Griffin Region College and Career Academy for their career fair!

Students got a firsthand experience putting on firefighter gear and learning just how heavy it can be. Our firefighters shared insight into what it takes to pursue a career in firefighting and answered any questions that could assist students. 🧑‍🚒🚒

A special thank you to Griffin Region College and Career Academy for inviting us! We appreciate the opportunity to connect with students and inspire future firefighters.

This month, Spalding County Fire is sporting pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month! We stand alongside the fighters, survivors, and families affected by breast cancer, honoring those we have lost and supporting those who continue to fight. 💗

While showing our support for this important cause, our crews were also hard at work sharpening their skills through ladder drills, reinforcing the teamwork, knowledge, and readiness needed to serve our community safely and effectively. 🚒

At Spalding County Fire, we believe in supporting our community both on and off the fireground. Together, we can help spread awareness, encourage early detection, and remind those fighting breast cancer that they are never alone. 💖

🚒🔥 Fire Safety Education in Our Community!

Spalding County Fire Department recently visited Community Ministries and Equal Chance Christian Academy for a fire safety detail focused on keeping our youngest community members safe.

Our firefighters taught students important home fire safety tips, what to do in the event of a fire, and the importance of having working smoke alarms. The kids also had the opportunity to get up close with our fire truck and learn about the equipment firefighters use every day. 🧯👩‍🚒👨‍🚒

We’re proud to educate, connect, and build relationships with the next generation of our community. ❤️🖤

🔥REMINDER🔥

As outdoor burning resumes, please act safely and responsibly. Burn only natural vegetation and keep a water source and any necessary tools nearby. Remember to maintain a safe clearance from structures (100 feet, 50 if in an approved container). Avoid burning during dry or windy conditions and also, make certain the fire is completely extinguished before leaving the area or nightfall. Please see our earlier post for a complete list of Spalding County's outdoor burning rules.

🔥🔥OUTDOOR BURNING UPDATE🔥🔥

Beginning Thursday, October 1, the seasonal outdoor burning ban will be lifted in Spalding County. Residents may burn hand-piled natural vegetation without a permit from October 1 through April 30. Please refer to the following outdoor burning rules for guidance.

Must always be attended by a competent adult (you are responsible for your fire)

Must have an adequate extinguishing agent on hand (garden hose, dirt, sand, water, fire extinguisher, fire break cut around the perimeter of the area to be burned)

Must be located 50 feet from any structure or 15 feet if placed in an approved container (55-gallon drum, metal or concrete fire pit)

*Must not contain any household garbage or petroleum-based products such as tires, plastics, or any material that gives off black smoke or strange odors. This also includes any treated or processed wood product. Other solid waste such as construction materials (shingles, siding, framing, etc.) are also not allowable. Only natural vegetation (limbs, leaves, or grass) is permissible.

Must be extinguished by nightfall. Consider starting the burn at an earlier time if it involves large amounts of yard debris that may require additional time to complete burning!

REMEMBER:

Agriculture, silviculture, and land clearing burns for residential or commercial development DO require notification to the Georgia Forestry Commission AND A PERMIT.

The person responsible for a fire may be held liable for damage to adjacent properties resulting from an escaped fire. Unlawful burn notices or citations may also be issued if the safety requirements are not followed or the burn contains *illegal items.

Remember the Fallen. Never Forget. ❤️

Today, Members of the Spalding County Fire Department participated in the Stone Mountain 9/11 Memorial Climb.

Every year, Fire departments from around the area gather and hike the mountain in honor of the 343 Firefighters who passed away 25 years ago in an act of bravery during an extreme tragedy within our nation. 🚒
