Building relationships with our youth is an important part of serving our community. Each week, Officers with the City of Griffin Police Department visit The Griffin-Spalding County School System, Griffin GA to connect with students, offer encouragement, and share lessons that help keep them safe.

Officer Zuke recently visited Orrs Elementary School, where he read a story that taught students how to make smart and safe decisions while playing outside.

Thank you to Orrs Elementary School for your continued partnership and for welcoming our Officers into the classroom. These positive connections help build trust today and contribute to a safer, stronger Griffin for years to come.

Tonight, we officially kicked off the 2026 Citizens’ Government Academy! This year marks the City of Griffin’s 22nd year hosting this free program, which gives citizens a behind-the-scenes look at the people, departments, and services that keep our community moving forward.

We are excited to spend the next eight weeks learning, connecting, and making memories with this crew! Welcome to CGA, friends!

Due to the City's observance of Labor Day, the landfill is closed this Saturday, September 5th, and the solid waste pickup schedule has been revised for next week. If you have been thinking about it, now is the time! Citizens’ Government Academy begins NEXT week, and we have extended the registration deadline through Monday, August 31st, with only a few spots remaining.

In just eight weeks, you will go behind the scenes of the City of Griffin to discover what it takes to keep our community running. Meet the people behind City services, tour facilities that residents typically do not get to see, participate in hands-on demonstrations, and have social media myths answered directly by City staff.

CGA is FREE, dinner is provided each week, and the experience will give you an entirely new perspective. The program is 6pm to 8pm on Thursdays from September 3rd to October 22nd.

The City of Griffin extends its heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, coworkers, and fellow golfers of Bobby Camp. Bobby was a valued member of the Griffin Golf Course family whose knowledge, dedication, and love for the game made a lasting impression on all who knew him. Please join us in keeping his loved ones in your thoughts and prayers.

Today, we said goodbye to a cherished member of the Griffin Golf Course family, Mr. Bobby Camp.

Mr. Bobby truly loved the game of golf and treasured every opportunity to be at the course. Whether he was working as a golf cart attendant, helping in the golf shop, enjoying a round, or sharing a putting lesson with anyone wise enough to take his advice, Mr. Bobby brought a lifetime of knowledge, dedication, and friendship to our course.

More than an employee and fellow golfer, Mr. Bobby was a valued part of the Griffin Golf Course community. He enjoyed being surrounded by others who shared his love for the game, and his presence made the course a better place. His family, friends, coworkers, and fellow golfing buddies are in our thoughts and prayers as we remember a life well lived and a love for golf that will not be forgotten. We will miss you, Mr. Bobby!

Happy to Griffin’s newest four-legged public safety partners: GPD K-9 Bella and Griffin Fire-Rescue K-9 Delilah!

National Dog Day is the perfect time to introduce two of Griffin’s newest four-legged public safety partners: GPD K-9 Bella and Griffin Fire-Rescue K-9 Delilah!

Bella is a 2-year-old Labrador trained in electronic detection and emotional support. Working alongside Investigator Kevin Hill, Bella can locate hidden digital storage devices including cell phones, SD cards, computers, tablets, USB drives, and cameras that may contain critical evidence, particularly in investigations involving crimes against children. She can also provide a calming presence for children and adults affected by abuse or trauma.

Bella was purchased and donated to the Griffin Police Department by the National Computer Forensics Institute, a division of the United States Secret Service. She received specialized training through Jordan Detection K9.

Delilah is a 1½-year-old Labrador Retriever trained to detect trace amounts of more than 60 ignitable liquids, even after a fire has burned. Alongside Captain Brent Burke, a fire investigator with 26 years of experience, Delilah will help Griffin Fire-Rescue investigators identify evidence and determine how fires began.

These specialized K-9s bring valuable skills that strengthen investigations, support victims, and help our public safety professionals serve the Griffin community. Please join us in welcoming Bella and Delilah, and wishing them a happy !

Over the course of two community cleanups this month, August 8th and August 22nd, volunteers came together at Union Cemetery to give their time, energy, and hard work toward preserving an important piece of Griffin’s history.

From clearing underbrush and removing overgrown vegetation to improving the cemetery's accessibility, an incredible amount of progress was made. To every volunteer who joined us for one or both cleanups, THANK YOU! Your willingness to serve is what Griffin Gives Back is all about.

You may notice Griffin Fire-Rescue crews inspecting and testing fire hydrants throughout the City. This routine maintenance helps ensure our hydrants are operational, accessible, and ready to provide the water needed during an emergency.

Regular hydrant inspection and testing also help Griffin Fire-Rescue maintain its ISO Class 1 rating, the highest Public Protection Classification awarded by the Insurance Services Office. This distinction reflects the strength of our community's fire protection capabilities, including emergency response, water supply, equipment, training, and other critical resources.

During testing, changes in water flow can stir up naturally occurring sediment within water lines and may temporarily cause discoloration. If you experience discolored water or need to report an issue, please contact the City of Griffin Water & Wastewater Department at 770-229-6424.

We are continuing the Griffin Gives Back Union Cemetery Project with another cleanup day THIS Saturday, August 22nd, from 9am to 12pm.

Union Cemetery is located on five acres on Placid Road and Grandview Drive in Griffin. There are believed to be at least 350 people buried there. With incomplete records, the goal is not only to restore and revitalize the known burial sites but also to connect records to the unknown burials. Through GPS mapping, we hope to identify and map grave sites, allowing families and descendants to pay their respects and preserving that knowledge for history.

Selected as the 2026 Griffin Gives Back Project, the first step of this challenge is to clear the underbrush and overgrown Wisteria vines from around the site. The City will be providing tools, gloves, dumpsters, and restroom facilities, as well as snacks and water.
