The Griffith Fire Department would like to thank all of the Kindergarten Teachers at Wadsworth Elementary School for inviting us to demonstrate what firefighter agility testing looks like.
Firefighters Jonathan Gibson, former Lieutenant Frank Alvarez, and Captain Ralph Alvarez spoke with the students about the importance of eating healthy and maintaining good physical fitness, and how both play a critical role in helping firefighters stay safe while serving the community.
The students then had the opportunity to participate in some of the physical capability activities that firefighters perform to help stay fit and prepared for emergency situations.
We are proud to report that every student successfully passed their agility testing and will now “report to their respective stations to begin training.” 😂
A special thank you to the teachers and students for making it such a fun and memorable day!

We would like to thank Erica Rios and the Griffith Police Department for inviting the Griffith Fire Department to participate in Beiriger Elementary’s “Too Cool for Drugs” event.

Firefighters Noah Angel, Troy Matthis, Jonathan Gibson, and Captain Ralph Alvarez spoke with the students about the importance of remaining drug-free and how maintaining good physical conditioning helps firefighters stay safe and ready to serve the community.

The students then had the opportunity to participate in some of the physical capability exercises that firefighters perform to help stay fit and measure readiness for the job.

A special thank you to all of the students for their enthusiasm and participation, and to the teachers and staff for helping make the event a success. We always appreciate the opportunity to engage with our community and encourage healthy, positive choices for our youth!

Today, the Griffith Fire Department would like to wish a very Happy Mother’s Day to all of the incredible mothers in our community and beyond.
To the moms who comfort us when we are hurt, support us through life’s challenges, and stand beside us during our proudest moments — thank you. Your love, strength, sacrifice, and guidance shape our families and our community every single day.
We would also like to recognize the mothers serving within our department family, as well as the wives, mothers, and grandmothers who support our firefighters through the long nights, missed holidays, emergency calls, and countless hours away from home. Your support never goes unnoticed, and we could not do this job without you.
Today, we celebrate you and all that you do. From all of us at the Griffith Fire Department, we wish you a safe, blessed, and love-filled Mother’s Day.

Thank you to our friends at Calumet Brewery, and Phorm Energy for their generous donation of energy drinks to the Griffith Fire Department.
Their support and appreciation for first responders means a great deal to our members. Small gestures like this go a long way in helping keep our firefighters fueled and ready to serve the community at a moment’s notice.
Thank you again for thinking of our department and for supporting firefighters everywhere.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Griffith Family YMCA for inviting the Griffith Fire Department to participate in their Healthy Kids Day Event.
Firefighters Steven Paprocki, Brayden Seaton, Probationary Firefighter Kaydan Paz, and Captain Ralph Alvarez spent time with the kids discussing the importance of physical fitness in the fire service. They also demonstrated some of the physical capability tests firefighters perform to stay in shape and ensure readiness for emergency situations.
The kids then had the opportunity to take part in these activities themselves—giving them a hands-on look at what it takes to be a firefighter.
We’re also proud to announce that we had a special “candidate” successfully complete all of the testing and is now an honorary member of our Search and Rescue Team!
Thank you again to the Griffith Family YMCA for a great event and for promoting health, fitness, and community engagement.
