Prairie Walks with Poweshiek Conservation
Thursday, August 13 @ 6 to 7 PM

Come join us to learn about the native plants that grow in our prairie. We will meet in the lobby before heading outside for our walk. We will be outside for an hour so please plan accordingly. This event is targeted at adults, but everyone is welcome to join. See you there!

The Community Crate will be at Drake Community Library from August 26th to 28th.

The Crate is an interactive, traveling exhibit housed inside a transformed shipping container. Created by UpLift Iowa, it highlights housing insecurity, eviction trends, and affordability challenges across Central Iowa.

The library will host a discussion of There Is No Place for Us: Working and Homeless in America, the Pulitzer Prize-winning book by Brian Goldstone on Wednesday, August 26th at 5 pm with a guided tour, dinner provided. Registration required at https://tinyurl.com/ccbookdisc.

In partnership, the Claude W. & Dolly Ahrens Foundation, Greater Poweshiek Community Foundation, and Grinnell College are sponsoring a Grinnell Gathers series, which will include a session regarding a moderated panel discussion highlighting the work of direct service providers across Poweshiek County. The panel will be in the Caulkins Community Room on Aug. 27 from noon-1:30 pm. Featuring representatives from the Grinnell Housing Authority, MICA, the Empowerment Center, Iowa Legal Aid, Grinnell-Newburg Community School,
the City of Grinnell, the City of Malcom, the Grinnell Police Department,
Brooklyn Public Library. This event is free and open to the public. The event will explore community needs, the services organizations provide, and meaningful ways residents can support local individuals and families. Following the panel discussion, attendees will be invited to view the Community Crate.
