Over the last few weeks, we have responded to multiple vehicle accidents and wildfires across the area. While emergency calls often receive the spotlight, there is a tremendous amount of work that happens behind the scenes. After the calls are answered, our volunteers spend countless hours maintaining trucks, checking equipment, restocking supplies, and making sure everything is ready for the next emergency. Their dedication does not end when the sirens are silent. The work they put in between calls helps ensure our department can respond quickly and effectively when our community needs us most.

We are also excited to welcome three new firefighters to the Groom VFD family. Please join us in welcoming Kaegan Massey, Holt Pitzer, and Dylan Pohlmeier to the department. We are grateful for their willingness to step up and serve our community and look forward to watching them grow as members of our team.

To all of our volunteers, thank you for the time, effort, and sacrifices you make. Whether you are responding to calls at all hours, spending evenings maintaining equipment, or training to be prepared for the next emergency, your commitment does not go unnoticed.

🚨 ATTENTION GROOM RESIDENTS 🚨

We will be conducting an outdoor warning siren test this evening at 7:00 p.m.

This is only a test and is part of our commitment to ensuring our emergency notification system is operating properly. If weather conditions appear questionable or there is any potential for severe weather in the area, the test will be postponed to avoid confusion.

We appreciate your cooperation as we work to help keep our community informed, prepared, and safe.

Yesterday, our department had the privilege of welcoming representatives from The 100 Club of the Texas Panhandle, who presented our department with a generous $10,000 donation.

The impact of this gift cannot be overstated. The 100 Club not only supports our department, but also volunteer and first responder agencies across the Texas Panhandle, providing critical assistance that helps departments continue serving their communities.

This year has been one of the busiest and most demanding seasons our department has faced. To put it into perspective, we have already responded to almost 69% of last year's total call volume. As call volumes continue to rise, support from organizations like The 100 Club makes a real difference. We are incredibly grateful for their generosity, their commitment to first responders, and their investment in the communities we serve.

If you're not familiar with The 100 Club of the Texas Panhandle, we encourage you to learn more about their mission, the work they do for first responders and their families, and how you can support their efforts. Their impact reaches far beyond any single department, and we are proud to be one of the many organizations they have helped.

Thank you, The 100 Club of the Texas Panhandle, for standing behind first responders across our region. Your support means more than words can express.

To the Men and Women of The Groom Volunteer Fire Department and Our Community,

Over the past several months, and especially throughout the last couple of weeks, we have seen just how demanding this job can be. Calls have come at all hours, conditions have been tough, and the workload has been heavier than usual. Through it all, the dedicated men and women of the GVFD have continued to answer every call with professionalism, courage, and commitment.

As Fire Chief, I want to personally commend every firefighter, responder, and volunteer who has given their time, energy, and sacrifice to serve this community. Whether it was responding to emergencies, supporting neighboring departments, training, maintaining equipment, or simply being ready when the tones drop, your hard work does not go unnoticed.

This department is built on teamwork, dedication, and pride in serving others. I could not be more proud of the effort each of you has shown during this busy season. Your willingness to put the community first, often ahead of your own needs and personal time, speaks volumes about the character of this department.

I also want to extend a sincere thank you to the Groom community for the continued support you show our department. From kind words and prayers to donations and encouragement, your support means more than you know. Small communities are strongest when everyone stands together, and we are fortunate to serve one that continually backs its first responders.

Please know that your efforts, sacrifices, and support are deeply appreciated. The past few months have tested us, but they have also shown the strength, resilience, and heart of this department and community.

Thank you all for everything you do each and every day.

Sincerely,
Mason Miller
Fire Chief
Groom Vol. Fire Department

Quick Update. Over the past several days, we, like many other departments, have been fighting various wildfires in the area.

As of now, we have one apparatus and two personnel on scene at the Stinky Fire in Potter County as part of the Carson County ESD 2 Strike Team.

We are absolutely devastated and heartbroken over the fires that have been occurring since late last week. Please continue to pray for our first responders, those directly affected, and for much-needed rain across the Panhandle.

Yesterday evening, our department was dispatched to multiple grassfires believed to have been caused by lightning strikes.

We were originally paged to 5240 FM 294 at 5:19 PM. While en route, we were turned back, which was followed by a page to Ruben Road and Highway 70 at 5:54 PM. Once that fire was contained, we were paged to Maddox Road and Highway 70 at 7:14 PM. As crews were preparing to return to the station, we were then paged for mutual aid to County Road G and FM 1342 at 7:54 PM.

In total, 12 personnel and seven apparatus responded to the various calls throughout the evening. All personnel and apparatus returned to the station by midnight.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all departments and personnel who provided mutual aid and assistance. Please continue to pray for those affected by the fires throughout the Panhandle, as well as for those responding, as we continue to face critical fire weather conditions.

On Monday evening, several of our volunteers gathered for our regularly scheduled training night. Members focused on SCBA training, including properly putting on and removing their equipment, participating in hands-on simulation exercises, and discussing safe and effective techniques.

We take pride in ensuring our volunteers are well trained and prepared, not only to respond when the tones drop, but to do so safely and confidently.
