The Michigan Commission on Services to the Aging is coming to The Helm for a Community Listening Session, and community members are invited to attend and share their experiences, ideas and perspectives.

This public hearing is designed to gather feedback on issues that matter most to older adults and those who support them. Discussion topics may include:

• Aging in our community
• Access to nutritious food and meals
• Transportation
• Caregiving and support resources
• Other topics important to you

Whether you are an older adult, caregiver, family member, professional or community member, your voice is welcome.

Qualifications include:
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Customer service and administrative experience
• Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)
• Ability to learn new computer programs
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• High school diploma required

🌸What a month at The Helm!

May was filled with milestones, community connections, learning, service, and fun. We celebrated the ribbon cutting of the new The Helm Wilson Day Center, welcomed the first participants into the pilot program, hosted our annual Sporting Clays Classic fundraiser, and welcomed volunteers for Community Impact Day to help get our grounds ready for spring.

Throughout the month, members and guests also enjoyed educational programs, creative workshops, social activities, special celebrations, and community outings, including New to Medicare, Art Journaling, the Vernor's Ginger Ale Lunch & Learn, our Mother's Day Luncheon & Movie, and a field trip to Orchestra Hall.

Thank you to everyone who participated, volunteered, attended events, supported our fundraisers, and helped make May such a memorable month. Take a look back at some of our favorite moments!

The Helm Wilson Day Center is now welcoming participants for our adult day program supporting older adults living with memory loss or cognitive decline.

Participants benefit from social engagement, structured activities, and meaningful daily connection in a welcoming environment.

Caregivers and families gain reassurance knowing participants are supported while also having time to work, attend appointments, manage responsibilities, or simply recharge.
