Shine a Light: Volunteer Viewpointe

Shine a Light: Volunteer Viewpointe Connecting Volunteers to Non-Profits in Metro Detroit Volunteer Viewpointe is a show that Shines a Light on volunteer opportunities in Metro Detroit.

Volunteering makes you feel needed. Volunteering can lead to learning new skills. Volunteering can help you deal with some of your personal problems. Volunteering helps you meet new people and breaks down barriers of misunderstanding, mistrust and fear. Volunteering can create new contacts which may help your business or career. It's What in the World You Can Do! You might be thinking, "The little

bit that I can do will never help much!" or "What in the world can I do?" If you've ever spent ten minutes reading a book to a lonely child, you know that even that small amount of compassion and attention can make a world of difference. No one person can solve the world's problems, but what little you do can make your little corner of the world — or one far away from yours a happier, healthier, safer place to live for those who need your help. Each of us can right a wrong, fill a plate, visit a shut-in, rescue a pet, deliver a meal, tend a public garden, mentor a child or whatever action inspires you. Just jump in and volunteer!

If you are going to watch and share one video today, make sure it is this one. The message here is extremely powerful and it will bring you to tears. It made me cry thinking, we need more people like him in this world who help others in need without thinking of getting anything in…

The Detroit Area Agency on Aging (DAAA) is a private, non-profit agency founded in 1980 as a senior planning, funding and advocacy agency. Located in downtown Detroit, we make a variety of eldercare services available to older adults and their families through public and private funding.

As one of sixteen Area Agencies on Aging in Michigan, DAAA plans, coordinates and develops services for the elderly, provides some direct services, and funds and monitors nearly 40 community agencies which provide most of the direct eldercare services in our area.

Are you looking for something wonderful to do with all your extra Halloween candy? Bring it to SOC 158 Ridge Rd. Grosse Pointe Farms. We will use if for a variety of fun activities for our seniors during the holidays. The seniors love "The Sweet Life" Bingo where all the prizes are delicious treats. We also have a wonderful volunteer that sorts the candy and turns it into party favors for our Thanksgiving and Christmas parties. Last but not least we make holiday baskets for local homebound seniors and love to add some treats to the baskets.
