Beginning Wednesday, Sept. 30, residents are invited to participate in a hands-on program exploring various aspects of law enforcement careers, including patrol functions, crash and criminal investigations, K-9 unit and more.

The Town of Groton Police Department is investigating a vandalism incident in downtown Mystic on Wednesday, August 19th.

As part of the investigation, detectives are seeking to identify the individuals shown in the accompanying videos, as they may have information that could assist investigators.

Jojo came to Animal Control as part of an animal cruelty case, and he is now ready for a fresh start and a family who will show him the love and kindness he deserves. He is already neutered, up to date on his vaccinations, microchipped, and has tested negative for tick-borne diseases.

Jojo is a laid-back senior gentleman who would love nothing more than a quiet, comfortable retirement home where he can relax and enjoy life at his own pace.

Poppy is current on all vaccinations, microchipped, and has tested negative for both heartworm and tick-borne diseases. She is a healthy, easygoing girl with a calm and gentle personality.

Poppy is a low-key lady who enjoys a relaxed lifestyle and seems to take things in stride. Her easygoing nature makes her a wonderful companion for someone looking for a laid-back canine friend.

Poppy has met several dogs and has done well with them. She will still need a meet-and-greet with any potential canine siblings to ensure everyone gets along.

Poppy has also met children and was a well-mannered lady! She would still like to meet any kiddo siblings in the home to make sure everyone is comfortable and happy together.

Meet Elvis, a handsome 2-year-old male Husky looking for his forever home! Elvis has been neutered, is up to date on all vaccinations, and has tested negative for both heartworm and tick-borne diseases.

This petite Husky weighs just 40 pounds and was found wandering on his own. Unfortunately, no owner ever came forward to claim him. True to his breed, Elvis enjoys serenading the kennel with his signature Husky "songs" and has plenty of personality to share.

Elvis is highly food-motivated, which makes him eager to learn and a great candidate for training. He has done well with the dogs he has met so far, but he would like the opportunity to meet any potential canine siblings before going home.

Elvis has also met a cat and did well! With the right introduction, he could possibly live with a confident, dog-savvy cat.

Town of Groton Police Investigate Serious Crash on Gold Star Highway Involving Car and E-Bike

GROTON — Town of Groton Police are investigating a serious crash on Gold Star Highway involving a car and an electric bike early Monday morning.

On Monday, Aug. 10, at approximately 12:20 a.m., Groton Emergency Dispatch received several 911 calls regarding a motor vehicle crash involving a car and an electric bike on Gold Star Highway (Route 184), in Groton, at the intersection of Rogers Road.

A preliminary investigation indicates the car, a 2001 Saturn L200, and the GT73 Electric Bike, collided. The man on the E-bike was knocked onto the roadway. The driver of the car remained on the scene and called 911 for help.

Upon arrival, officers located the man in the roadway. He was unconscious, but breathing. Other first responders arrived on scene and began treating the man, who was then transported by Groton Ambulance to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital, New London, for treatment of possible serious injuries.

The E-bike operator was identified as a 36-year-old New London man. He was treated at L&M Hospital and later released. The operator of the vehicle reported no injuries and was not transported to the hospital.

The initial investigation indicates the car was traveling east on Gold Star Highway in the area of Rogers Road when the E-bike, which was traveling northbound on Rogers Road, traveled through a posted stop sign at the intersection.

Emergency responders, including Poquonnock Bridge Fire Department, Center Groton Fire Department, Groton Ambulance Association, and L&M Hospital Paramedics, assisted on the scene.

Members of the Southeastern Connecticut Regional Traffic Unit arrived on the scene to assist in the investigation. The team of crash reconstructionists included officers from the Town of Groton Police Department and Stonington Police Departments.

Gold Star Highway, in the area of Rogers Road, was closed to traffic immediately following the crash, but has since reopened.

This crash remains under investigation by the Town of Groton Police Department.

The Town of Groton Police Department is aware of concerns related to a social media post about an incident in Groton last night. Officers responded to a call for service at a location on Groton Long Point Road. Following an investigation, the reports were determined to be unsubstantiated. There was no threat to the public’s safety at any time.
