Groton Conservation Trust Fall Traverse Sunday October 19th 2025 10:00 AM

This is always one of our most popular hikes of the year. Join the GCT as we traverse through the woods of Groton taking in all the fall splendor. These hikes are a great way to explore and meet new friends.

There is also a nice pot luck at the end of the hike for all to enjoy, hosted by Debbie and Geoff Howell. Participants are encouraged to drop off a shareable snack before the walk. Drivers are available to take hikers to the start. Additional information about the route and gathering afterwards will be sent out after registration.

Registration is required, please visit our Events page at https://www.gctrust.org/about/events to register. This is a free event. All are welcome!

FREE ALL AGES WALK! Groton Conservation Trust Tree Walk with Michelle Ruby, Saturday October 4, 2025 at 10:00 AM

Join the Groton Conservation Trust to learn how to identify the great diversity of trees in Groton, even during the cooler months. Groton is special in that nearly a third of the land in town is protected conservation land, and most of that is forested. GCT Trustee and Lawrence Academy science teacher Michelle Ruby will teach you tricks to recognizing many of the most common species around Groton, as well as how to use traditional field guides and/or the app iNaturalist to identify unfamiliar species. If you haven't been on a walk with Michelle, you're in for a treat! She brings deep expertise in local ecology and will share a myriad of tools and tricks for learning and identifying plants, trees, and other wildlife. This is an all ages, family event - all are welcome! Registration is required. The registration link with meeting details is at the GCT Events page at https://www.gctrust.org/about/events

GCT Sunset Party at The General Field, Thursday June 12, 2025 at 6:30 PM on Farmers Row in Groton. Look for our sign near the driveway across from Culver Road.

Join the Groton Conservation Trust for our annual Sunset Party at The General Field. Enjoy an evening of music and good company next to our beautiful wildflower garden. We are happy to bring back Chris Frothingham and his oyster shucking for free first of the season oysters. We are also delighted to welcome back the music of the Contra Banditos for a lively time.

There will be a special celebration of our good friends from Excalibur Farm, John and Laurie Smigelski. We will be recognizing John and Laurie for their many years of tremendous work in Groton and especially working on the meadows of The General Field.

The General Field Conservation Area has paved parking next to a flat grassy field and is an accessible space. All are welcome! Bring your picnic and your chairs, we hope to see you there!

This event is funded in part by the Town of Groton Lecture Fund.
