Wednesday was the last night of Groton's Jr. Fire Camp for 2026, and as always the kids had a great time!

We would like to thank our sponsors for this year BorgWarner, Ice Cream Caboose, Casper's, Scotland Lights, and especially those community members who have made donations to the Groton Fire Department throughout the year to support our activities in the community such as the Jr. Firefighters Camp.

For the last evening we added waterball to our water based activities in addition to the Bucket Brigade and the "water fall".

EMT Flo gave presentations on basic first aid and what to do if you have fallen, are bleeding and chocking.

And who can say no to Hot Dogs and Ice Cream as we wound down this years camp.

We hope to see you in 2027 for another exciting Jr. Fighter Camp!

Today was another great day for Camp!

Today's activities included an obstacle course where the campers maneuvered around cones while carrying hose lengths, crawling through a tunnel, shooting water at a simulated fire, some had completed the course while actually wearing an SCBA! A few actually wanted to complete the course several times. After all that they ended up at the bouncy house water slide to cool off from the heat.

On a more serious note, another activity was what to do if your room fills with smoke and your smoke detector goes off, yes we did set off the smoke detectors off in the hallway by accident when we filled the rooms and hallways with the smoke machine.

We also set up a "Bucket Brigade" so the campers could see who could fill the barrels the fastest, of course there was much water on the campers then in the buckets.

Then who could say no to Ice Cream as the day wound down !

What a lovely day to start off the 2026 Groton Fire Dept Junior Firefighter Camp.
While we like to have the kids have fun with water, such as the bouncy water slide and the our deck gun supplying a fountain of water for cooling off, we also manage to sneak in some learning moments.
This year Retired Deputy Chief Rob and Retired 911 Dispatcher Lauren discussed when to call 911 and the types of questions that 911 will ask. They also went over the radios that the firefighters use, and several kids actually got to talk to our own Fire Chief Eric!

Deputy Chief Michael, and Firefighter Chris went over the tools and equipment that firefighters use when fighting fires, or at accident scenes. They also went over the insides of the ambulance and how EMT's and firefighters help people using the equipment.

Other firefighters were around assisting the various activities and also answering questions as the needed.

Sharing from Village of Groton Police

There will be no Westbound Traffic going down Elm Street towards the Village as well as no Southbound traffic down Carpenter Ave.

Carpenter and Elm Street will both be one way traffic for the duration of the event. (Carpenter one way headed from Elm to Rt 222. Elm one way headed from the Elementary School towards Lick St)

Please park in the same direction on both streets.

The upper parking lots at the Elementary School are for handicap and families with small children. All other areas first come first serve.
