Reminder as a part of ACT162 burn permits are not required for fires 36 inches in diameter or less that is built in stone arches, outdoor fireplace, or existing fire rings. However during High fire danger you must follow a burn band if put in place by Forest Parks Recreation.
All fires 36 inches or larger are classified as category 2 fires. A category 2 fire is any pile larger then 36 inches in diameter or 36 inches in diameter or less not contained in stone arches,outdoor fireplaces, or fire rings and require a permit.
Groton residents can reach out to Forest Fire warden Steve Batchelder at 802-793-3071 with any questions or to obtain a permit.

We are pleased to partner with the VT Fire Academy and several local Fire Departments to bring some amazing training locally. This Fire Fighter 1 & 2 Training is a national certification taught by some of the best fire instructors in the area. Fire danger is moderate for today. Campfires no larger the 36 inches and that are contained in a fire pit or fire ring do not require a burn permit. But must be a safe distance from structures 20-50 feet at least. Please reach out to Fire warden Steve Batchelder 802-793-3071 if you need a permit for open burning
