Exciting Changes Ahead for Re-Treasured Community Closet!
We have listened to the community and have been working diligently behind the scenes to address our need for more space at Re-Treasured Community Closet!
Last week, we finalized an agreement with the Groton United Methodist Church to relocate to their parsonage at 1417 Scott Highway Groton—just a hop, skip, and jump from our current spot!
*Same Location: Still in Groton village
*Continued Services: Offering the same great services (with the possibility of expanding in the future)
*Additional Amenities: An entire parking lot for our guests, a full kitchen we hope to utilize for our weekly offerings, and a combined mission with the Groton United Methodist Church to continue serving our community!
We are incredibly excited and a little nervous (as change can be challenging at first), but this is truly an exhilarating time for our shop!
To ensure this move goes as smoothly as possible, we will need to close the shop for the month of September. Here’s why:
*Space Enhancements: The new location requires some sprucing up, and we want to ensure that every detail is perfect before moving in. The Methodist Church has a fantastic team working diligently, and we have some amazing individuals ready to tackle the cleaning and add a touch of sparkle!
*Accessibility: We want to make sure our space is accessible to everyone, which includes building a new ramp—our other family business has graciously offered to assist with this! If you see Heidi and me out there with hammer and nails in hand, feel free to honk or stop by!
*Seasonal Transition: As the seasons shift, we will be sorting through our clothing inventory to remove summer items and make way for our fall and winter collection. When we reopen, you can expect summer items to be replaced with those suitable for the cooler months!
*Compliance and Upgrades: We need to collaborate with our partner agencies to ensure compliance with all guidelines. This will involve purchasing new shelving and meeting with the agencies, which takes time.
*Kitchen Improvements: We are also in the early stages of some grant funding to replace the kitchen appliances in the new space with energy-efficient options, and we want to allocate the necessary time for this process.
**In summary, while there are many significant tasks ahead, we also want to focus on the small details that will make our reopening successful. We understand that many of you rely on us, and emergencies can arise. Therefore, during the month of September, we will offer “emergency services.” Stay tuned for more information on contact details!
As August comes to a close, it's business as usual here at the Shop! In the Donation Center, we kindly ask that individuals refrain from bringing in any more clothing donations. However, we are delighted to accept the following items:
Shoes
Household goods
Hygiene products
Food donations
Undergarments
Floor lamps (see related post)
Jewelry and bags
We will need to be quite selective, as our goal is to minimize the amount we have to handle. Thank you for your patience as we navigate the upcoming weeks! We are truly excited to enhance the experience, services, and love at the Re-Treasured Community Closet!
