🌳 12TH STREET – STORM DAMAGE
The Town is aware of trees down near 12th Street.

EDITED TO ADD: WE ARE ALSO AWARE OF A TREE DOWN IN THE 300 BLOCK OF PARK AVE. updated 426pm

Our crews are headed out and will address the situation as safety allows. Please give our Public Works crew plenty of room to work and do not attempt to move trees or debris yourself.

🌳 Please use caution as the storm continues:
• Avoid unnecessary travel, especially in areas with storm damage.
• Watch for downed trees, branches, debris, and possible power lines.
• Never approach or touch a downed power line. Treat all downed lines as live.
• Conditions can change quickly as the storm continues.

If you come across additional storm damage within the Town, please report it to us so we can be made aware of the situation.

Please stay safe and avoid unnecessary travel until the storm has passed.

EDITED TO ADD: Report power outages to Dominion Energy. They should also be notified of downed power lines if they are in your area. 1-866-366-4357. Areas of town still have power and this will help them pinpoint where repairs are necessary.

We are proud to announce the installation of a public access AED/Stop the Bleed kit in the vestibule at the front entrance of our station, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

This station was installed to provide immediate access to life-saving equipment if someone comes to the station seeking emergency assistance while personnel are already out on other emergency calls.

The station includes:

❤️ Automated External Defibrillator (AED) - Designed to help someone experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. This device provides step-by-step voice instructions and will only deliver a shock if it detects one is needed.

🩸Stop the Bleed Kit - This kit contains tourniquets, wound packing gauze, pressing dressing and gloves to help control life-threatening bleeding until help arrives.

While we hope these resources are never needed, being prepared can make all the difference in a life threatening emergency.

Interested in taking a CPR/AED/Stop the Bleed Course? Go to www.rescue20.org or send us your information through Facebook messenger and we will be in touch.

Great advice from our friends at the Grottoes Police Department

A little for us all -

Under Virginia Code § 46.2-826, drivers must stop before entering a public roadway and yield the right-of-way to approaching traffic and pedestrians.

Whether you're leaving home, work, or your favorite drive-thru, taking a few extra seconds to stop, look, and yield can help prevent a crash.

A safe trip is always the best value on the menu.

We're LOVIN' safe driving 😉💙

Measles is a highly contagious virus that is now linked to an outbreak in Buckingham County. Symptoms often begin with fever, cough, runny nose, and red eyes before a rash develops. Vaccination remains the best protection for individuals and our community. If you think you or your child may have measles, call ahead before visiting a healthcare facility to help prevent further spread.

Call 911 immediately if you suspect yourself or a family member to have measles and you or they have difficulty breathing, severe dehydration, altered mental status, seizures, or unresponsiveness.

It is with profound sadness that we report the passing of Lifetime Member, Sandra Wilberger. Sandy served the Grottoes Rescue Squad and the community for over 40 years serving not only as an EMT, but Sandy held many administrative positions including Secretary, Treasurer, President and President of the Board of Directors.

Sandy was a servant leader and always had the best interest of the organization in mind as she presided over the Board of Directors for many years. Sandy regularly provided advice to new leaders, and especially the President as they were elected to office.

Please keep her friends and family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

This evening our crews engaged in a training session to prepare for the upcoming outdoor season. Crews had to hike 1.6 miles up the Madison Run Fire Road to gain access to and treat a difficulty breathing patient. Crews then carried the simulated patient out on a litter. These calls are some of the most challenging that we receive and as expected our personnel performed well.

Today Captain Stacy Sutherland and Vice President Conner Varner delivered baskets to Harrisonburg-Rockingham Emergency Communications Center and Augusta County Emergency Communications Center.
At Harrisonburg-Rockingham ECC they were greeted by Grottoes Rescue Squad Life Member Brittany Wampler, and were given a tour of the facilities!
At Augusta County EC, they got to meet all of the dispatchers on duty and received a tour of their operations and systems.
Dispatchers are the first individuals to respond to emergencies, listen to the callers concerns, and send the appropriate resources to your emergency. Often times they stay on the line and provide life saving directions to you and your family members in need. They do an excellent job at keeping our communities and our responders safe.
