New faces in new places! 📚✏️📓Welcome Mr. Ryan Wells to SWCS who joins Prairie Norton Elementary School as its new principal following the recent retirement of Mr. Gosztyla.

Mr. Wells comes to us from Groveport Madison Local Schools, where he currently serves as the principal of Asbury Elementary School - a role he has held since 2023. Prior to that, he served as an assistant principal at Pickerington Central High School and Toll Gate Middle School. Mr. Wells has deep roots in our school system as he returns home to South Western City Schools - serving originally as an Intervention Specialist at Holt Crossing Intermediate School and Westland High School in addition to being a Grove City High School graduate. Welcome to Prairie Norton Elementary School Mr. Wells!

The 2026-2027 deadline for Success Beyond the Classroom scholarships for Marching Band participation is TOMORROW Friday, June 12.

SBC's goal is to help SWCS students in need of assistance with their participation fees by awarding as many scholarships as possible each season of each school year. SBC scholarships are awarded in varying amounts, covering up to 75% (maximum) of the corresponding participation fee.

As the school year came to a close, one Darby Woods Elementary kindergartener received the surprise of a lifetime.

During a game of Heads Up, Seven Up, she opened her eyes to discover that she hadn't been picked by a classmate—but by her mom. After eight months apart, A1C Cruz Martinez of the United States Air Force was finally able to reunite with her daughter and celebrate her completion of kindergarten in person.

At the June 8, 2026 meeting of the South Western City Schools Board of Education, the Board and Treasurer Hugh Garside were recognized with the 2025 Auditor of State Award with Distinction. 🏆This marks the third consecutive time the District has received this honor.

This award marks one of the highest honors presented by the Ohio Auditor of State’s Office for excellence in financial reporting and fiscal management. Of the approximately 4,200 audits conducted annually across Ohio, only about four percent (4%) receive the Auditor of State Award with Distinction.

To earn the recognition, an organization must meet stringent criteria, including timely financial reporting, preparation of a Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, and a clean audit free of findings for recovery, material citations, material weaknesses, significant deficiencies, Uniform Guidance findings, or questioned costs. Congratulations to Mr. Garside and our entire SWCS Treasurer's Office Team for their tireless and diligent efforts on behalf of students, staff, and taxpayers!

Last night, the South Western City Schools Board of Education and district administration gathered to celebrate the 2026 Class of Retirees.

This year’s retirees include dedicated teachers, bus drivers, food service staff, educational aides and support personnel — individuals who have given countless years of service to the students and schools of SWCS. Their commitment, care and contributions have made a lasting impact across the district.
