Dear Friends in the 8th State House District,
I have truly enjoyed getting to know so many of you as I have gone door-to-door throughout this wonderful community. Since announcing my candidacy in January 2014, I have knocked on over 7,000 doors. It has provided me the opportunity to meet you, talk about my candidacy, and discuss my plans for Pennsylvania.
I have been interested in government since I was a small child. I didn’t have a father growing up since his life was taken in a car accident shortly after my first birthday. This void was filled with Presidential superheroes and a fascination with how the government worked - all things my father enjoyed.
I was raised by my mother who was now widowed. She had to work extra hard to provide for our two-person family and she was the one left with the responsibility of instilling me with values and making me a man of honor. I owe a lot to my mother and am humbled when she says I’ve turned into the man my father was.
These values have made me be a devoted husband to my wife, Beth, who I first met in church youth group. Although we have not yet been blessed with children of our own, we are thankful for the family we have.
I have known for several years that I would run for State Representative when Dick Stevenson decided to retire. I have taken the time to properly prepare myself. I have been an elected official in Grove City since 2005, where I am currently serving as the Vice President of Grove City Borough Council. During my tenure on council, I HAVE NEVER VOTED TO INCREASE TAXES and we have lowered property taxes by 62% by cutting spending and being fiscally responsible. I am proud of my voting record here at home and you will be proud of my voting record when I am working for you in Harrisburg. I also bring work experience to this position. I was a social studies teacher for nearly 13 years until YDC New Castle was shut down due to budget cuts in Pennsylvania. By May 2013, I found myself, like many people in our community and state, a displaced worker through no fault of my own. With no positions available in my field, I decided to start my own business. In January 2014, Black Consultants LLC was finalized to help other small businesses and nonprofits succeed through improvements to operations and logistics. Small businesses are the backbone of our communities and I am proud to be part of that.
I believe that I am the most qualified candidate for State Representative in the 8th State House District, because I have always known what I wanted to be and have always done what is best for our community. This position is not my next career path, but rather an opportunity for me to help make the 8th State House District a better place to live, work and raise a family.
I would be honored to earn your vote on May 20th. I am listed #3 on your Republican ballot.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey Black
