🚨 SCAM ALERT – THINK BEFORE YOU SEND THAT PHOTO 🚨

Please talk to your children, friends, and loved ones about this scam—and share this post to spread awareness.

There is a growing scam where individuals are targeted after sending a picture—and it can quickly turn into extortion.

Here’s how it typically happens:
Someone you don’t know (or barely know) connects with you on social media or by text. The conversation may feel friendly or even flirtatious. They ask you to send a photo—sometimes innocent at first, sometimes more personal.

Then everything changes.

⚠️ The scammer threatens to share your photo with your friends, family, or post it online unless you send them money.

This is called sextortion, and it is happening to people of all ages—including right here in Clarke County.

Important things to remember:
• Once you send a photo, you lose control of it
• Scammers are professionals at building trust quickly
• They rely on fear, embarrassment, and urgency

âť— What to do if this happens to you:
• Do NOT send money
• Stop responding immediately
• Save messages and screenshots as evidence
• Report the account on the platform
• Contact your local law enforcement

🚨 SCAM ALERT – CLARKE COUNTY 🚨
May 1, 2026

The #1 scam affecting our area today is phone calls threatening arrest.

Citizens are reporting calls from individuals claiming to be with the Sheriff’s Office, court system, or other law enforcement, telling them they must pay immediately to avoid arrest for:

▪️ Failure to appear in court

⚠️ THIS IS A SCAM.

Here’s what you need to know:

đź”´ Law enforcement will NEVER call and demand payment over the phone.
đź”´ You will never be asked to pay with gift cards, Cash App, Venmo, or wire transfer.
đź”´ These callers often use fear and urgency to pressure you into acting quickly.

âś… What to do if you get this call:
• Hang up immediately
• Do NOT give out personal or financial information
• Do NOT send money
• Call your local law enforcement office directly to verify
