Groveton Citizens -
I would very much appreciate your support and your vote. I am running for a Groveton City Council seat.
I have been attending City Council meetings regularly for over 9 years. There needs to be serious changes if we, as a community, wish to grow and thrive. There needs to be a vision for the future and an understanding of what we should do today. There needs to be far more openness and transparency. Many things have happened over the past months that were just plain wrong. Many dedicated and experienced city employees have left over the past few months. Their abrupt departure has been a significant loss to the effective operations of our municipal duties. I think most of us have noticed a marked decrease in the quality and effectiveness of our city services of late. That has to change if we wish to have the kind of city we want to live in and have other good families move here too.
I believe our City Council should be far more pro-active, rather than mostly reactive.
I believe we should have a clear vision statement for our future.
We should have a written mission statement that clearly spells out what are duties are to the citizens of Groveton.
We should be promoting our city with an active public relations campaign that attracts businesses and new permanent residents.
We need to update our city ordinances, publish them on our city's website, and implement them fairly and equitably across our community.
We should have stated goals for where we should be in5, 10, and even 20 years from now - not just 6 or 12 months down the road.
If we wish to grow and thrive as a community - a nice town that people want to be in - we can no longer "continue on, business as usual".
I believe, in my heart, I can contribute to a positive change for our wonderful city in heart of Deep East Texas. Of course, I am nowhere near perfect. Yes, I have issues that I need to fix. I work them diligently. But that does not mean I cannot serve you, the citizens of Groveton and be a champion of positive changes for all of our community.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and thank you for your vote on Saturday.
