Our volunteers respond when someone calls for help - fire or otherwise. Today, it was someone who needed help as their horse was being attacked by bees.

That’s what true volunteerism is all about. People willing to leave their homes, families, meals, to try to help somebody else in their time of need… even when the call involves hosing down a horse covered in hornets.

Today was just another reminder that our department is made up of caring people with servant hearts, and we want to thank each and every member who continually steps up to help however they can. We appreciate you more than words can say. ❤️🚒

Groveton VFD is currently responding to a 911 caller requesting help after hornets got on his horse. Firefighters are en route to assist by hosing the horse down and helping get the situation under control.

Just another day in the life of a volunteer fire department — you never know what the next call may bring. We’re thankful we’re able to help.

Happy Birthday to one of our firefighters, Jordan McPike! 🎉🚒

Jordan has been a dedicated member of the department for many years, and we are truly thankful for his service, commitment, and willingness to always help our community.

Jordan is also part of one of the three father-son teams we are proud to have serving on our department, which makes his dedication even more special.

We sure do appreciate Jordan and everything he does for the department and the community. We hope you have a wonderful birthday, Jordan!

Many people do not realize that when a medical helicopter is called, the fire department is often responsible for setting up and securing the landing zone. This is a lengthy process that begins the moment the helicopter is requested. Our volunteers respond, locate a safe landing area, secure the scene, and position emergency vehicles around the perimeter to help mark the zone and identify hazards such as electrical lines or obstacles.

Then comes the waiting — waiting for the helicopter to arrive, assisting during patient transfer, and remaining on scene until the helicopter safely lifts off.

These volunteers give countless hours to this community in ways far beyond fighting fires and responding to accidents. They stand ready to help during some of the most critical moments a family may ever face, often sacrificing time with their own families to serve others. We are proud of the dedication and commitment of our volunteer firefighters and thankful for everything they do for our community.
