🩡 World Breastfeeding Week | August 1–7, 2026 🩡

Each year, World Breastfeeding Week brings communities around the world together to celebrate, protect, and support breastfeeding. This global observance highlights the many health benefits breastfeeding provides for both babies and mothers while encouraging families to have the support they need to succeed.

This year's theme, "Breastfeeding for a Sustainable Start in Life: Strengthen What Works," reminds us that when we invest in proven support systems, we help families build healthier futures.

At the East Central Health District WIC Program, we're committed to strengthening what works by providing:
🀱 Breastfeeding education
πŸ’™ Compassionate support and encouragement
πŸ₯— Nutritious supplemental foods
πŸ‘©β€βš•οΈ Resources to help families every step of the way

Throughout World Breastfeeding Week, we'll celebrate breastfeeding families and recognize the dedicated WIC staff and community partners who make a difference every day.

Join us August 1–7 as we honor the power of breastfeedingβ€”one mother, one baby, and one family at a time.

🚨 **Measles Update in Georgia**

The Georgia Department of Public Health has confirmed **three new measles cases** in members of an unvaccinated metro Atlanta family who recently traveled internationally.

Measles is **highly contagious** and can spread through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes. The virus can remain in the air or on surfaces for up to **two hours**.

**Watch for symptoms:**
β€’ High fever
β€’ Cough
β€’ Runny nose
β€’ Watery eyes
β€’ Rash that starts at the head and spreads downward

The **MMR vaccine is safe and effective** at preventing measles. Children should receive their first dose between **12–15 months** and a second dose between **4–6 years**.

Today, we celebrate the nurses who show up with skill, compassion, patience, and heart every single day.

From comforting patients to protecting communities, nurses are often the steady hands and caring voices people remember most during their health journey.

This year’s International Nurses Day theme is β€œOur Nurses. Our Future. Empowered Nurses Save Lives.” And we could not agree more. When nurses are supported, valued, and empowered, everyone benefits.

To every nurse serving our communities: thank you for the care you give, the lives you touch, and the difference you make.

Happy International Nurses Day!
