“My name is Clint O'Brien. I am excited to join Baker Place Elementary this year as one of the coaches! I was born and raised in the Augusta area and attended college at Augusta State University. I have taught PE for 18 years. I am transferring from another Columbia county school. My wife and I adopted twin girls at birth and they are now 6 years old: Allison & Maci. They keep us busy with their activities and we are grateful for them each day. When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my family, playing disc golf, and reading my Bible. I am looking forward to a great school year at BPE!”

“Hey, I am Lauren O’Neil, and I am so excited to join the Baker Place community. I have been teaching for 16 years in Columbia County. Every year my passion for teaching grows. I love seeing the look on my students face when they have an “Aha Moment”, it’s the absolute best! In my free time, I enjoy reading, cooking , and traveling with my family. I am excited that my youngest daughter will join me this year at Baker Place. I know this will be a great year!"

“Hello everyone! My name is Aniyah Hairston, and I am excited to join the Baker Place family this year. I am originally from Valdosta, Georgia and graduated from Georgia Southern University.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, traveling, trying new restaurants, and giving back to my community. I love meeting new people, exploring new places, and embracing new experiences.

I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the Baker Place family and look forward to getting to know the students, families, and staff who make this community so special. I know this will be a wonderful year, and I am excited for all that is ahead.”

“Hi! My name is Caroline Taylor, and I am so excited to join the Baker Place family as a third-grade teacher! I earned my Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Specialist in Elementary Education from Augusta University.

Math has always been my favorite subject. I love helping students build confidence with math while discovering that it can be fun and rewarding!

When I’m not teaching, you can usually find me playing pickleball, enjoying a game of mahjong, or reading a good book. Being part of a book club is one of my favorite hobbies!

I can’t wait to get to know all of the Baker Place Eagles. It’s going to be a great year!”

“Hi! My name is Caitlyn Whitehead, and I am so excited to SOAR with the Baker Place family this year! I will be teaching 5th grade with a phenomenal team. I am a native of the area, having grown up in Evans, and then settling into the Grovetown area in 2014. I graduated from Augusta University in 2016. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Trevor, and two boys, Liam and Finn, in Amelia Island, watching college sports (GO DAWGS!), and testing out new recipes in the kitchen. I know this year is going to be the best, and we are going to strive for greatness! I’m eager to meet all of my students and their families soon!”

One fun fact about me is that I have a pink sparkling motorcycle! I am eager to build relationships with my students and their families, as well as my new school family, and I know this will be a great year!”

“Hi everyone! My name is Emily Sandbach, and I am so excited to join the BPE family as a 4th grade teacher this school year!

I am originally from Monroe, GA and graduated from Georgia Southern University in 2023 with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. I then earned my M.Ed. in 2024, along with additional endorsements. After spending the last three years in beautiful Savannah, GA my husband and I are excited to be closer to our loved ones. We are newlyweds and got married in November 2025!

When I’m not in the classroom, you can usually find me running, baking, or spending time with family and friends. I can’t wait to meet everyone and be a part of the BPE community! 💙🦅”

After 31 extraordinary years of shaping young minds, lifting up teachers, and pouring endless love into every school community that she has served, we celebrate the retirement of our remarkable Assistant Principal - Ms. Suzy Pierce Thigpen.

Ms. Thigpen, we’ve had the pleasure of being under your leadership for the last two years. Your leadership has always been rooted in compassion, patience, and a belief that every child and teacher deserves to feel seen, supported, and capable of greatness. Thank you for that.

Thank you for being a steady voice in the hallway, calm in chaos, a cheerleader behind every success, and a joyful guide through every challenge. Generations of students carry your influence with them — because you didn’t just help them learn, you helped them believe in themselves.

Your legacy of impact will forever live in the classrooms you nurtured, the teachers you led, the families you comforted, and the countless laughs and little moments that made our school feel like home.
