Not every rescue involves flashing lights and sirens.

Prater Fire & Rescue members were able to safely rescue a cat from a tree and return it back to solid ground.

Glad we could help this little climber!

Prater Fire & Rescue recently completed a successful training with 16 members from Prater Fire, Knox Creek Fire and Council Fire.

Crews spent 8 hours training in the rain on VES (a search and rescue technique used to quickly reach and remove trapped occupants through a window), hoseline deployment and advancement, forcible entry and ventilation. This training helped strengthen important fireground skills while also building teamwork between departments.

We would like to thank a member of the Deskins community for allowing us to use his property for this training. Support like this helps local departments train safely and better prepare to serve our communities.

Prater Fire & Rescue, along with Council Fire Department and Davenport Life Saving Crew, responded to Leemaster Road for a reported two-vehicle motor vehicle accident with multiple injuries yesterday.

Upon arrival, units found two trucks involved in a head-on collision with the roadway blocked. Rescue personnel evaluated and transported two patients for further medical care. Fire crews assisted with traffic control, scene safety and applied oil dry to the roadway.

Rogers Towing and Grundy Auto Sales responded and removed the vehicles from the roadway.

We would like to thank all responding agencies and personnel for their teamwork on scene. Please continue to use caution in the area of emergency incidents and watch for responders working near the roadway.

Prater Fire & Rescue had a great time welcoming students from Riverview Elementary to our station for a fun filled visit.

During their time with us, the kids learned important fire safety tips, what to do in case of a fire and what firefighters may look like if we ever have to come help them. This helps children understand that even though our gear may look different or sound loud, firefighters are there to help and should not be feared.

They also got a special visit from Marshall, toured our ambulances and fire trucks and even had the chance to spray some water.

We were thrilled to have them visit and we can’t wait to see the next group that comes to see us.

If you are ever by the station and would like to visit, stop in and say hello. If a member is available, we would be happy to show you around our station.

Prater Fire & Rescue would like to wish a Happy Nurses Week to the nurses who work alongside EMS, fire and healthcare teams every day.
Whether receiving patients in the emergency department, caring for them during recovery or supporting families through difficult moments, nurses play an important role in the care our community receives.
We appreciate your hard work, long hours and dedication to helping others.
Happy Nurses Week from Prater Fire & Rescue.

This weekend members from Prater, Council, Honaker and Slate Creek Vol. Fire Dept. successfully completed EVOC I, II, and III.

This course included both classroom instruction and cone course driving exercises to help students better understand the rules, safety practices and vehicle classes involved in emergency vehicle operations. The training gives members the opportunity to learn more about safe driving, vehicle handling and the responsibilities that come with operating emergency apparatus.

Courses like this are important because they help department members build knowledge, improve driving skills and better prepare for real-world response situations. Strong training in emergency vehicle operations helps protect responders, passengers and the public while ensuring equipment can be operated safely and effectively.

We are proud of everyone who completed the course this weekend and appreciate their commitment to training and continued improvement. Opportunities like this help strengthen all of our departments and the service we provide to our communities.

During Dispatchers Appreciation Week, Prater Fire & Rescue would like to recognize and thank the dispatchers of our county’s emergency communications center for the work they do every day.

Dispatchers are often the first voice people hear when they are scared, hurt, or facing an emergency. They help bring calm to stressful situations while gathering important information and making sure the right help is sent as quickly as possible.

Even though the public may not always see everything they do, dispatchers play a major part in every call from start to finish. They help keep responders informed, coordinated and ready to do their job safely and effectively.

We are grateful for your hard work, your dedication and the steady support you provide every day.

Thank you for everything you do to support emergency services across the county and to help protect the communities we are all proud to serve.
