James’s journey has not been easy, and anyone who knows him understands the barriers he has overcome. Friday night was proof that recovery is anything but boring. Recovery is finding the "new" in everything—new hobbies, new laughs, and a brand-new way to live.

Huge shoutout to Southern Gap Dirt Drags and Extreme Motorsports Grundy VA for the incredible experience! Seeing our families and even an employer out there cheering us on reminded us that we aren't walking this path alone. We’re trading the old life for a fast one!

🎉 Loretta O’Quinn and Monica Coleman for receiving their Early Recovery Certificates.

🎉 Larry Stacy and Herman “Tubbie” Jackson for completing their Relapse Prevention group and receiving their certificates.

🪙 A massive shout-out to Chris Sage for receiving his Phase V Medallion and advancing to the final phase of the program!

BIG THINGS continue to happen here, and we are so thankful to our community partners and Cumberland Mountain Community Services for their vital support and treatment groups.

On Friday, April 10, 2026, family and friends gathered to celebrate a major milestone in the lives of four incredible individuals: Rhonda Harris-Skeens, Shannon Hurley, James “Bear” Moore, and Grover “Todd” Vanover. We are proud to announce they have officially graduated from Buchanan County Recovery Court! 🎓

On behalf of the Buchanan County Recovery Court Team, we want to extend a special thank you to the guests who made this ceremony possible:

▪️Judge Reece H. Robertson: For leading the ceremony and also for her thoughtful and heartfelt speeches regarding each participant. Her dedication to their success is truly appreciated.

▪️Senator Todd Pillion: Thank you for working around an extremely busy schedule to serve as our Keynote Speaker and for honoring our graduates with certificates from your office.

▪️Nikki Stiltner - Commonwealth's Attorney: Thank you for your inspiring words and for providing the blue pins for us to wear in honor of Child Abuse Prevention Month.

▪️Pastor Shea Shrader of Harman Memorial Baptist Church: Thank you for leading us in prayer and for being a consistent rock for our participants.

▪️The Families: To Cierra (Rhonda’s daughter), Maddison and Megan (Shannon’s daughters), and Tiffany (James’ daughter)—your powerful, heartwarming, and moving speeches didn't leave a dry eye in the room. Thank you for sharing your stories.

Buchanan County Recovery Court would like to acknowledge the following participants who hit major milestones in their recovery at our weekly status hearing on Wednesday, April 8, 2026!

🎉 Heather Matney advanced to Phase V—the final phase of the program before graduation! If only everyone could’ve seen her yesterday; we are so proud of how far she has come!

🎉 Monica Coleman advanced to Phase II! We cannot believe the change we have seen in her over the last 60 days. Keep up the great work!

🎉 BJ Dotson advanced to Phase III. Anyone who knows BJ knows how incredibly hard he has worked for this!

🎉 Derick Lester received his Certificate of Completion for Decision Points, a program offered through D #43 P&P!

Lastly…..

🎉 It was Rhonda, Shannon, James, and Todd’s last ever status hearing. They’ll get their final coins tomorrow! 👀🪙 🎉

Anyone who truly knows Tubbie understands the physical challenges he has overcome throughout his life. Yet, they have never broken his spirit. He is always laughing, smiling, and lending a helping hand to others.

Clean Roads, Bright Futures! ✨

Today, the Buchanan County Community Work Program and Buchanan County Recovery Court teamed up once again for a litter pickup on Leemaster. Together, we covered 8.3 miles and cleared away a staggering 108 bags of trash!

This brings our grand total for the last three joint cleanups to 296 bags. We are incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication shown by everyone involved. Not only are we making our community cleaner, but we’re also building a safer, more beautiful environment for everyone to enjoy.

Thank you to Anthony at Pizza Hut for giving us an amazing deal on our order, and for providing lunch for all of us!

Lastly, we thoroughly enjoyed meeting Oliver the dog on our route. Whoever he belongs to, he was a joy to have around us today!

On Friday, March 20, 2026, Buchanan County Recovery Court & Buchanan County Community Work Program partnered with Austin Looney, Litter Control Officer, to pickup litter below Grundy. 115 bags of litter were collected today.

It was such a successful day!! ❤️ Catch us tomorrow out Leemaster cleaning up the community.. and please drive slow! 😊
