New Publication - Living Near the River
The Guilford Town Historian Tom Gray’s new publication Living Near the River takes us on a journey of the Township of Guilford. It covers the river hamlets of East Guilford, Rockdale, Mt Upton, Rockwell Mills and Latham corners. The history begins when there was only a dark wilderness in the land west of the Unadilla River. It then follows our early settlements from 1789 to the growth of industry on the river hamlets. Roads and transportation were improved as businesses developed. Included in this history are also stories of spies, an undertaker, a strange castle, a horse cemetery, an underground room and other interesting and sometimes strange stories detailing what it was like to live near the river. The book is rich in old photos that add to the history of the Town of Guilford. Limited copies of the book have recently been printed in soft cover with perfect binding. This new publication on the History of Guilford includes 179 pages including an appendix, references and an index. The book makes a great Christmas present and it will also help the Guilford Historical Society in their restoration of the Guilford Center Presbyterian Church. To order a copy please fb me or call - 607 895 6532
Free for anyone who makes a $100 or more donation to the GHS new home restoration project. To find out more see the above sentence.

On Monday, November 2nd at the Guilford Town Hall at 7:00 pm, Henry Drexler presents:
“The Way It Was”
Have you ever wondered what the roads, towns and farms of Chenango County looked like before the age of automobiles, washing machines, and telephones? This presentation will take you back to a time when horses, canals and trains were the primary modes of transportation, when people communicated in person, not on Face Book and entertainment was live. You will see photographs of people and places in Chenango County that were taken before almost anyone you know was born.
Come join us at the next Guilford Historical Society meeting for this presentation. All are welcome and bring a friend.
