Celebrating the principle of Kujichagulia - self definition, agency and voice.

As Black donors, we speak with our pocketbooks, whether giving to support individuals connected to our most passionate causes, or accelerating a vision that excites our dreaming and affirms our aspiration. The Bible says that where our heart is, our money goes. Since our first step on the North American continent, our definition, agency and voice have resonated through music, culinary arts, dance and general craftiness. Everywhere we are in the world, our inimitable style and way of being in community inspire both love and hatred. May love of our owm Black selves and of our communities bolster us against anti- blackness and trails of deferred dreams. We don't need anyone to create, interpret or speak for us. We have authority to present our authentic and beautiful selves, wherever we are. ❤️

Mississippians are some of the most giving people in the nation. I encourage you to look at your giving portfolio and explore new ways to give that you haven’t considered before.

This might mean giving online where you have only given by check in the past. This could mean choosing to become a monthly giver at an organization that welcomes the opportunity to forecast its monthly revenue.

If you made 72 this year, you will want to consult with your financial advisor about tax benefits of making a qualified charitable distribution (QCD) from the required minimum distribution (RMD) established by the IRS. In fact a financial advisor can help you figure out so many ways to support your favorite charities beyond cash gifts.
