If you are a boater, especially if you have an inspected vessel by the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, you have flares aboard your vessel. And you probably know that those flares expire. They expire 42 months after manufacture, so by the time you get them, they might only have 36 months or less. So, when they have expired, what do you do with them? No, don't just light them for fun, dispose of them properly. In Pinellas County you can do that at the Pinellas County Household Waste Center located at 2855 109th Ave N, St Petersburg. The center is open 7am to 5pm, weekdays and on the first and third Saturday's of the month. If that is too inconvenient, check your local marina, they "might" accept them if they are a "clean marina." At Pinellas County, they will charge you $10.91/lb, but flares don't weight toooo much.

No Wake Zones are there for a reason. Reducing your speed helps protect swimmers, paddlers, and wildlife, keeps docks and boats safe from damage, and protects shorelines from erosion.

Remember, when you enter a No Wake Zone:
✅ Slow to idle speed
✅ Minimize your wake
✅ Stay alert for others on the water
✅ Take precautions to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning
✅ Make sure every passenger stays on the vessel and keeps their life jacket on
