1. Course length:
a. Combined Training/Builder School will run 48 academic training days (
approx.2.5 months) with Navy Construction Sailors, Army Soldiers, and Air Force Airmen. This consists of one week of basic mathematics followed by hands-on instruction in commercial structural construction techniques from concrete foundations to roofing including pre-engineering building and interior framing. Air Force Unique Track of Training will be the last 41 academic training days (approx. 2.5 months) for Air Force students only. This consists of hands-on instruction on sheet metal fabrication, weldingand AFSC specific contingency items.
2. Supplemental Course Information
a. The Metals Layout Fabrication and Welding (MLFW) course is 14 academic days of training dedicated toward enhancing your skills as a multi-skilled structural technician. The course is divided into two blocks. Each block is seven days long. The Roofing Installation Maintenance Inspection and Repair (RIMIR) course is 9 academic days directed toward developing Air Force Airmen, noncommissioned officers and civilian equivalent personnel in the knowledge and skills necessary to determine installation, maintenance and repair procedures for low and steep slope roof systems. Other areas covered include roof safety, roof management program and roof inspection and repair.
3. Uniforms: The Operational Camouflage Pattern (OCP) will be worn for academic training. The Service Dress Uniform will be worn for graduation of the Apprentice Course. The Navy Exchange does not stock much in the way of Air Force items, so be sure to bring what you need. Keesler Air Force Base is twelve miles east of the Navy Base and has a full line of Air Force Uniform items. Mandatory safety items that will be issued are: hard hat, gloves, and goggles. It is mandatory that you bring steel toe boots. These are provided by your home unit. The new AF Physical Training (PT) gear is the mandatory uniform for PT. It will be worn IAW AFI 36-2903.
4. There is no government transportation or bus system available at the CB Base. If you need to get around for Official Duty Appointments, the Military Training Leaders can assist you in scheduling a duty driver. For Unofficial Business, commercial taxi's are available, but limited.
