Gunnison County Democrats Attend Annual CommUNITY Dinner:
Last Sunday the Gunnison County Democratic Party held its Annual CommUNITY Dinner at the I-Bar Ranch. Over 80 supporters attended the event to hear from Democratic candidates, learn more about this Fall’s election, and generally catch up with each other.
The keynote speaker, Dwayne Romero, Democratic candidate for the Third Congressional District, talked about the unmet needs of CD3 constituents and shared that he is conducting a tour of Town Hall Meetings to meet personally with district constituents. He spoke of being a representative who addresses the needs of people in the district instead of the desires of the current administration. Dwayne also shared that recent polling has him neck and neck with Jeff Hurd, the current CD3 Representative.
Also highlighted was local Mt. Crested Butte councilman, Alec Lindeman, candidate for Colorado House District 58 which includes Gunnison County. Alec spoke of the importance of having a representative who is aware of emergencies and other issues happening within HD58 and being available to help with state resources if needed. Mr. Lindeman also highlighted the need to confront the current cost of living for district constituents, the cost and availability of health care, and the importance of protecting our public lands.
Other speakers included Mike Callihan who spoke on behalf of gubernatorial candidate, Phil Weiser, Laura Puckett Daniels who is running for re-election as a Gunnison County Commissioner, Kathy Simillion who is seeking re-election as the County Clerk, and current county commissioners Liz Smith and Jonathan Houck.
