I'm sad. My heart is broken. The Gunnison Valley has lost
Someone who made positives changes in the Valley; someo e who put a smile on everyone's face.
We have lost someone in the Valley who was well known in the world of dog mushing, someone who gave shelter to
Dogs when they needed a home and introduced people to
The joys of mushing. She was a dressage horse woman, a volunteer who helped people with PTSD and children with special needs, someone with integrity and a warm heart who was always there to help her friends, her dogs, her horses and others ,regardless of their gender ,race or religion. She was a bone marrow donor and someone deeply concerned about the environment. That woman is Becky Barkman,an icon,a legend in the Valley and around the USA. She was also my wife.
She leaves behind her husband, Jesus Lopez, her mother,Caroline Barkman, her sister Betty and brother Bill Barkman, 4 nephews and many loving friends. She also leaves behind many dogs and horses who are still looking for her to come up the road.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart to the family, friends and volunteers that have walked with me before, during and after Becky's journey. To all of you, I owe you a debt of gratitude . Jesus Lopez.
