⚠️Update 5/26/2026 @ 4:45pm
The Lost Canyon Fire is currently estimated at approximately 8 acres. Smoke may be visible from the Fossil Ridge Wilderness and Highway 135 area.

Due to the fire’s remote location and limited access, two large air tankers were deployed to drop retardant and help slow the fire’s progression while ground personnel worked to access the incident.

A 20-person hand crew, eight smokejumpers, and a Type 3 helicopter are currently assigned to the fire and will continue suppression efforts in the coming days.

****
⚠️Update 7:30pm - Crews will be keeping a watchful eye on the fire for the night. The fire remains at 10 acres, and several aircraft have been working to create a fire line. More resources will be arriving tomorrow.

At this time, there are no evacuation or pre-evacuation notices for this fire.

⚠️Update: 5:00pm

The wildfire in the Fossil Ridge Wilderness Area is currently estimated at approximately 10 acres. This fire is being called the Lost Canyon Fire.

Gunnison Volunteer Fire Department, Gunnison Valley Health Paramedics, and U.S. Forest Service-Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre & Gunnison National Forests Firefighters remain actively engaged on the incident. Additional state and federal resources have been requested, and Air Attack is currently working the scene.
