Gold Mountain Fire Update: Gunnison County removing zones from evacuation status

At 12:00 p.m. on August 31st, 2026, evacuation Zones GNN-032 and GNN-033 from the Gold Mountain Fire will be reduced from Pre-Evacuation status to no evacuation status.

➡️ For Zone 32, this includes the area south of Storm King, east of Cimarron Ridge to County Rd 864A in the Cimarron Valley to the US Forest Service boundary. This includes the Bear Claw, Silver Jack, Eagle's Rest, and Little Bighorn subdivisions.
➡️ For Zone 33, this includes the area east of County Road 864A and West of Big Blue Creek, up to the BLM boundary; and south of the intersection of County Road 883 and County Road 864, also known as Little Cimarron; and north of the Forest Service Boundary.

Fire personnel have completed containment lines in the area, and favorable weather conditions are expected.

No credentials will be required for reentry.

Gunnison County Emergency Management and the Gunnison County Sheriff's Office - Colorado are aware of a small-engine plane crash that occurred on the runway near the town of Marble.

The pilot has been transported to the local hospital. Please do not call 9-1-1 to report this incident.

All lands managed by the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison (GMUG) National Forests will move from Stage 2 to Stage 1 Fire Restrictions beginning August 20 at 12:01 a.m. through December 31, unless rescinded.

Emerging Incident (IA) - Steep Fire (8/13): FINAL UPDATE
Firefighters worked overnight and into this morning completing mop-up and contaiment operations of the new wildfire start from yesterday, 8/12.

As of 1:15 p.m. today, the Steep Fire has been listed as contained and controlled at a total of 2.4 acres. There is no further risk around this incident. This will be the last update on this incident.
