The Marshall County Farm-City Committee was honored for the Best Media Coverage and Proclamation for larger population counties during the Alabama Farm-City Awards Luncheon in Auburn April 9. Marshall County received cash prizes from the Alabama Farmers Agriculture Foundation (AFAF) for their work, which centered around the theme Grow Alabama. Throughout 2025, multiple articles appeared in county newspapers, including a six-page special section highlighting Farm-City in the Advertiser Gleam. The Marshall County Commission declared Farm-City Week countywide, and leaders from four cities and towns had proclamation signings. Distinct differences exist between farm and city life, but rural and urban communities rely heavily upon each other to provide the abundant American way of life.

Farmers are dedicated to producing quality food, fiber, and forest products for everyone to enjoy. Moving those products from farms to homes requires cooperation with people from varying walks of life.

The main goal of Farm-City is to deepen understanding of the relationship between rural farmers and urban workers.

Grocers, truck drivers, factory workers, computer scientists, bankers, veterinarians, chemists, salesmen, and numerous others all play important roles in getting food from fields to kitchen tables.

Since 1955, Farm-City committees have hosted educational events and invited people who live in cities to visit local farms for a first-hand look at how their food is raised. Farm-City Programs serve communities throughout the U.S. and Canada by educating youth and adults about the interdependence of agriculture and industry.

Farm-Cityโ€™s year-round activities aimed at education, outreach, and promotion begin with National Ag Day in the spring and culminate with Farm-City Week the week leading up to Thanksgiving.
