We had a great time this week taking part in Fire Prevention Week at Madison County Elementary School. Our department, alongside Gurley Fire & Rescue, Killingsworth Cove Volunteer Fire Department, and Central Fire/Ems each taught kids from preschool thru 8th grade a different fire safety concept. Keel Mountain had the “Stop, Drop and Roll” station. It was a lot of fun for us and the kids. Many thanks to MCES for inviting us. 😁

We had a great time at the open house last Saturday in spite of the rain. A VERY big thank you to Senator Sam Givhan and County Commissioner Craig. Hill for their attendance, and their very generous donations to our department. Senator Givhan provided a generous grant for our new Station 2 that will be built on Winterview Drive. Commissioner Craig Hill donated a much needed Ford F150 Pickup truck to add to our fleet as an additional rapid response vehicle. We are deeply appreciative of Senator Givhan and Commissioner Hill for their continued and unwavering support of our Keel Mountain community. We couldn’t do it without them!

More pictures will be on the website soon.

This National Preparedness Month, take a few simple steps to help protect your home and property from wildfire.

Creating defensible space around your home can help reduce wildfire risk and give firefighters a safer area to work. Start by clearing leaves and other debris, trimming tree branches away from structures, and keeping vegetation spaced out around your home.

A little preparation now can make a difference when wildfire threatens.

On September 11, 2001, 343 FDNY firefighters made the ultimate sacrifice when they ran toward danger to save others. Driven by an unwavering vow to protect, these devoted parents, spouses, children, and friends left a permanent void in the hearts of their families.

For first responders everywhere, their courage redefined the meaning of duty. However, their legacy of unconditional love and unity provides a profound blueprint for all humanity. May we never forget their names, families, or sacrifice. 🚒 🇺🇸

Attention all State of Alabama Certified Prescribed Burn Managers!!!

The Alabama Forestry Commission has designed an entirely new online burn permitting system that will now provide CPBMs with useful fire weather information along with their permit information. Please follow the link in our bio to the new permitting portal, which will prompt users to create an initial profile along with a 2-step verification process.

This new system is designed to ultimately streamline the permitting process for applicants and dispatchers going forward. Applicants will then have the option to geolocate their prescribed burn location or manually enter their information, similar to the old system. Once the applicant has entered all necessary information and there are currently no burn restrictions in the permitting area, a burn permit number will be generated and emailed to the applicant along with fire weather information for the permit area.

The new program will also allow the AFC to inform CPBMs of any burn restrictions across the state via email obtained from your user profile. While CPBMs will still have the option to obtain a burn permit via phone, we want to encourage everyone to utilize this new online permitting system as we will be phasing out burn permits via phone within the next 12 months. This will allow AFC dispatchers to focus their efforts on emergency response and fire suppression activities for people in need.
The online burn permitting website will be available soon on our AFC homepage!

We did a little wildland fire fighting training this past weekend. We greatly appreciate and for a generous donation of DripDrop electrolyte drink mix. We received their donation as part of the 2026 DripDrop Hydration Giveback Campaign. Hydration is a key component of keeping our firefighters performing at their best in extreme heat during emergency situations and training. FYI - we hold training every 1st and 3d Sunday afternoon at 5:00 if you are interested in what we do. .
