A message from Lake County Democrats - Illinois
Have yard signs left over from the March 17 primary election? If your candidates don't want their signs back (or if you're a candidate with signs you don't want), don't throw them out! Read below for more information from SWALCO (Solid Waste Agency of Lake County) about recycling your yard signs.
Recycling Corrugated Plastic Election/Campaign Signs
From March 23 through April 28, 2026, bring your corrugated plastic yard signs to one of these drop-off locations to recycle them properly:
Highland Park Recycling Center Address:
1180 Half Day Road, Highland Park, IL 60035
Hours: Every Tuesday and first Saturday of each month, 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM
WM Lake County Recycling Center Address:
30869 IL-83, Grayslake, IL 60030
Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM
Reminder: Remove wire supports before recycling. Metal wires can be recycled separately as scrap metal. These programs accept corrugated plastic signs only--please don't place them in your regular home recycling bin.
Additional site in Barrington: Both yard signs and stakes can also be recycled at the Barrington Public Works site (300 Raymond, Barrington). The site is always open and signs can be dropped off any time, any day of the year. Turn left after the gate and look for a sign that says "Metal Stakes Here."
The City of Highland Park has partnered with the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County (SWALCO) to promote residential recycling. The drop-off program is available to all Lake County residents. SWALCO and the City are committed to continuing electronic recycling.
