The Gurnee, Illinois Police Department is a 24-hour, 7-day per week law enforcement operation consisting of 61 sworn officers and 30 civilian personnel. We also service a visitor population of over 24 million people per year. On average, we respond to 50,000 calls for police service each year. Last night, our officers traded patrol duties for serving duties at the annual Tip-A-Cop at Texas Roadhouse!

We had a great time teaming up with the Texas Roadhouse crew and everyone who stopped in to support Special Olympics Illinois. Thank you for the tips, laughs, and generosity — we appreciate everyone who helped make the night a success!

Members of the Gurnee Police Department will be at Texas Roadhouse from 4–8 PM TODAY raising money for Special Olympics during our Tip-A-Cop event.

This Monday from 4–8 PM, Gurnee Police officers will be joining the Texas Roadhouse crew for Tip-A-Cop, benefiting Special Olympics!

Stop by for dinner, visit with our officers, make a donation and check out our Law Enforcement Torch Run shirts while you’re there.

It’s an easy way to enjoy a night out while supporting Special Olympics athletes and an incredible cause. 💙

We’ll bring the officers. Texas Roadhouse can handle the steaks and those dangerously good rolls. 😂

🎒 First week of school isn’t just for the students! 🚔📚

Our School Resource Officers are officially back in the halls, so naturally, we made some of them take their own First Day of School photos. 😂

You might notice a common theme when it comes to their future career goals…apparently retirement is very popular. 👀

This year, our SRO team will be working throughout our local schools, building relationships with students and staff, helping keep our schools safe, and hopefully staying out of the principal’s office.

Please join us in welcoming Officers Brucal, Bayarsaikan, and Rendon back from the police academy!

After months of training, studying, testing, and plenty of long days, they’ve officially completed the academy and are ready for the next phase of their journey with the Gurnee Police Department.

We’re excited to have them back home and look forward to seeing them out in the community. Congratulations, Officers! 👏💙

Our supply of Law Enforcement Torch Run shirts has been replenished, and you’ll be able to pick one up during Tip-A-Cop at Texas Roadhouse!

Proceeds help support Special Olympics, and our officers will be there throughout the evening collecting donations, visiting with families and helping make dinner a little more entertaining.

Our crossing guards have an important job. They help students safely make their way across some of our busiest roadways.

When you approach a school crossing:

🚗 Slow down
👀 Watch for children
🛑 Follow the crossing guard's directions
🚸 Keep the crosswalk clear
⏱️ Be patient

Give our crossing guards the space and attention they need to do their job safely.

They’re looking out for our students. We need drivers looking out for them, too.

School buses are back on the road, and those flashing red lights and stop arms have one purpose: protecting children.

When a school bus stops to load or unload students:

🔴 Pay attention to the flashing lights
🛑 Obey the extended stop arm
👀 Watch carefully for children around the bus
⏱️ Be patient! A child's safety is worth the wait

Never pass a stopped school bus with a stop arm extended. It's the law.

Please join us in welcoming the newest member of the Gurnee Police Department, Officer Shane Siddens!

Officer Siddens comes to Gurnee after serving another Lake County community for the past four years. He brings valuable experience and knowledge to our department and is excited to continue growing his law enforcement career while serving the Gurnee community.

He was sworn in this morning by Mayor Hood and received his badge through the official badge pinning ceremony.

We’re excited to have him on our team and we look forward to all that he will contribute to our department and community.

🚸 SEE THE CROSSWALK? BE READY TO STOP.

With school back in session this week, expect to see more students and families walking through our neighborhoods.

Drivers must stop and yield to pedestrians in crosswalks when required.

👀 Scan ahead
🛑 Be prepared to stop
🚸 Watch both sides of the crosswalk
📵 Keep distractions away

And remember: if another vehicle is stopped at a crosswalk for a pedestrian, do not pass it.

A little patience goes a long way toward getting everyone to school safely.
