The Gurnee Police Department is seeking an innovative Crime Analyst to help build and operate our first Real Time Crime Center.

This isn't a traditional analyst position.

This position plays an important role in supporting the Police Chief, Deputy Chief, Command Staff, and department personnel through a variety of administrative, financial, and customer service responsibilities.

We're looking for a detail oriented, organized professional who can work independently, manage multiple priorities, and provide exceptional service to both department staff and the community.

🚪 A knock at the door turned into a great reminder about home security.

A Gurnee resident contacted our department after a door to door pest control salesperson visited their home. During the conversation, the salesperson asked the homeowner to follow him to the backyard.

At that moment, the resident remembered hearing about "ruse burglaries," where one person distracts a homeowner while another attempts to enter the residence unnoticed.

Rather than immediately following the salesperson, the resident took a smart precaution. They closed and locked the front door, then exited through the rear sliding door to meet the salesperson in the backyard. This allowed them to keep their home secure while still continuing the conversation.

In this case, the solicitor was properly registered to conduct business in Gurnee and there was no criminal activity. However, the resident's actions demonstrate exactly the type of awareness and caution we encourage.

✔️ Keep entry points secured before stepping away
✔️ Be aware of your surroundings
✔️ Trust your instincts if something feels unusual
✔️ Contact the Police Department if you have questions about solicitors in your neighborhood

We applaud this resident for staying alert and taking proactive steps to protect their home. Good habits and situational awareness remain some of the best tools for preventing crime.

As Independence Day approaches, Gurnee Police officers will be conducting additional traffic enforcement from June 19 through July 6, focusing on impaired driving and seat belt compliance.

If your plans include alcohol, cannabis, or anything else that could impair your ability to drive, make a plan before you go:
✅ Designate a sober driver
✅ Use a rideshare or taxi
✅ Call a friend or family member
✅ Buckle up every trip, every seat

Our goal isn't to ruin anyone's holiday. It's to make sure everyone gets home safely to enjoy the rest of their summer.
