Hello Lovely Library Patrons!
Happy Spring! June’s arrival will hopefully bring us the sunshine we deserve and the vitamin D we all are severely lacking in. Here is what the Library is bringing to you this June:
Summer Reading! - June 1st to August 19th – Join the Gustavus Public Library in celebrating Summer Reading! A program to encourage everyone to read all summer long! This is an ALL Ages Program. EVERYONE can participate. We have many motivational prizes to encourage entries. For example: a Kindle, Judy Cooper block print, a Magic 8 Ball, a Massage from Joanie (Adults Only), A haircut from Kathy Streveler, A Pet Portrait from Morgan Park, Gift Certificates to Local Businesses, NEW Library T-shirt, NEW Books and SO MUCH MORE.
Patrons can earn entries to win by:
-Completing Reading Logs: Reading Log Bookmarks can be found at the front desk starting June 1st. Fill out the log and return the library for entry. Every completed log is one entry.
-Program Attendance Entry: For every program attended, patrons can gain one additional entry. Program Attendance Entry slips can be found at every Library event.
-ENTRIES ARE UNLIMITED. Entries must be in by August 19th at 10am. Winners drawn at the End of Summer Reading Celebration.
Summer Story Time with a Ranger and Librarian – Every Wednesday starting June 3rd @ 10:00am – Join a National Park Ranger and a Librarian to read a story and participate in an activity! Dress for the weather we meet outside! Adults are responsible for the supervision of their children during Story Time.
Summer Reading KICK-OFF Party – Saturday June 6th @ 11:00-1:00pm - Come celebrate the start of Summer Reading with an Ice Cream Social! We will have yard games, bubble art, and FUN! Sign up and learn more about Summer Reading. Start reading to win prizes!
Senior Tea & Talk - Tuesday June 9th @ 11:00am - A once a month get together aimed at seniors to encourage community. All ages are welcome and encouraged to come! Gathering in the Library Meeting Room every second Tuesday at 11 am. Tea and cookies provided.
ATLA Open Clinic at the Library – Tuesday June 9th @ 1:00-4:00pm - Assistive Technology of Alaska (ATLA) is a statewide nonprofit resources center. We help Alaskans of all ages explore tools and technology that support independence, safety for daily life. Holding an open clinic at the Library!
Grief Share – Every Monday starting June 15th @ 9:30-10:30am – Community Support Group for those experiencing loss and/or bereavement. Are you interested in offering or receiving support among others grieving? Join us Monday from 9:30-10:30am at the Library for a six-week support group. Facilitated by Julie Howell and Joyce Gallagher.
Meat Rabbit Husbandry -Free Workshop – Saturday June 20th @ 1:30-4:30pm - Learn how to construct a grow-out cage for fryers, perform a basic health check on rabbits, and identify good commercial body type. The first six to register and attend will receive a starter kit (water bottle, feeder, and more: approximately a $50 value) to help lower the barrier to raising rabbits for meat at home. Summer Library Literacy Camp - June 29th-July 3rd - This year’s camp is centered around celebrating our favorite authors and illustrators! We will be spending the week reading, having outdoor adventures and art time creating props to participate in the 4th of July Parade! It will be a literary fun time! Rising 1st to 6th graders are welcome to sign up. $50 a week, scholarships available. Patrons can register by emailing [email protected] . These camps are made possible by the Alaska Community Foundation Grant.
