A (not so quick) update from the Dray -
Like everyone, our crew and equipment are exhausted and broken. We (with an army of helpers) are working nonstop to keep fuel flowing. Priority 1 is the generators to keep the lights on, then the snow plows and equipment, then the pumps and then home deliveries.
The good news is that we have plenty of fuel in town. We stock almost 200,000 gallons of fuel and propane in the winter just in case this kind of thing happens so we are prepared. Plus we already have another fuel barge scheduled in less than two weeks.
The bad news is we are finding home deliveries nearly impossible in these conditions. The main issue we’re facing is the narrow radiuses on everyone’s driveways. The radius is the part where your driveway meets the City road. While your short SUV or pickup may be able to make the turn into your driveway now, a long fuel truck can not. And even if we could reach your tank with a hose from the City road, we can’t block or turn around on the one lane roads.
For every dozen fuel orders we receive, we might be able to access three of them. We’re spending most of our days stuck from trying. And the driveway berms may or may not get any better as the winter progresses.
So we decided to take drastic measures and start building a very short, custom fuel truck to try and get down these incredibly narrow driveways. With lots of help from Justin, Jesse and Ian we plan to have it operational by the first of next week. We also have a ton of other people stepping up to help like Mike Gephart digging out our propane supply, Gustavus Construction helping with the buildings and many others. It’s been a group effort and we couldn’t do any of this without so much help.
We know we’re behind on deliveries and we know you’re waiting. If you’re physically capable, you may need to put a few Jerry jugs of fuel in your tank until we can get there. If you need fuel, please keep a path to your fuel tank shoveled. One of our drivers is already injured from trudging through all the snow so if your tank isn’t accessible we’ll have to move on to the next house.
We will make it through this. Just please be patient while we fight against the odds during this historic snowfall.
Thank you.
