The City of Gustine is currently addressing seasonal activity from cattle egrets in our parks, particularly around Schmidt Park. While these birds are protected, their presence can create health concerns due to waste in high-use areas.

To help deter nesting near public spaces, the City will be using sound cannons and other methods. Residents in the surrounding area should expect occasional loud noises over the next several weeks.

Important Reminders:
• Do not approach or disturb the birds or their nests
• Once nesting begins, all deterrence efforts will stop
• Cattle egrets are protected under federal law

We appreciate your understanding as we work to keep our parks safe and enjoyable for everyone.

Merry Christmas from the Gustine Police Department

Last week, our officers had the honor of escorting Santa throughout our community as he delivered Christmas gifts to local children and families. With the help of generous community support, around 150 gifts were delivered—bringing smiles, joy, and a little extra Christmas magic to some very deserving kids.

Moments like these remind us that policing is about more than enforcement—it’s about serving, caring for, and walking alongside the community we love.

We hope you and your families had a safe, joyful, and meaningful holiday. From all of us at the Gustine Police Department, Merry Christmas and thank you for allowing us to serve this incredible community.

🎃☕ Cocoa with a Cop: Halloween Safety Edition! 👮‍♂️📚
We had an amazing time at our first-ever Cocoa with a Cop event, hosted at the Scrawl, Scribble, & Smirch Bookshop in Gustine! Families enjoyed hot cocoa (with plenty of whipped cream!), Halloween goodie bags, safety tips, and fun freebies.

A huge thank-you to our Volunteers, Explorers, and Officers Trujillo, Gallardo, and Elizalde for making the event such a success! 👏
We were also joined by CHP Officer Vasquez and Fish & Wildlife Officer Baker, and the kids loved storytime with children’s author John Paul Padilla, who read from his inspiring anti-bullying book “Johnny Big-Ears.” Both Johnny Big-Ears and McGruff the Crime Dog made special appearances that had everyone smiling! 🐾📖

Finally, a special shout-out to Marie Hall and the team at the Bookshop for opening their doors to our community. 💙
