Work is progressing on the new Wrestling practice facility at Guthrie High School. The pad for the foundation has been prepared and concrete is expected to be poured tomorrow morning.

This project is expected to be completed in late Fall and will provide a much larger practice facility and locker rooms for the girls and boys wrestling teams. Home matches will still be in the High School gym.

Guthrie Public Schools New Executive Director of Human Resources and Secondary Education

On Monday evening, the Guthrie Public Schools Board of Education approved the hiring of Jason Burkhart as Executive Director of Human Resources and Secondary Education. The position became available as John Hancock was recently hired to be the next Superintendent of Hinton Public Schools. Mr. Burkhart has served as the Principal of Cooper Middle School in Putnam City for the past seven years. Prior to his time at CMS, he was an Assistant Principal at Putnam City North High School for four years and one year at U. S. Grant High School in Oklahoma City. Burkhart, a 23 year veteran educator, has also taught at Millwood Arts Academy, Northwest Classen High School and Del City High School.

Jason Burkhart on his appointment as Guthrie Public Schools Executive Director of Human Resources and Secondary Education: “I am thrilled and blessed to be able to work and learn alongside a terrific administrative team. Guthrie Public Schools is tradition rich and rooted in growing young leaders. I am excited to contribute to that and to be part of the Bluejay family!”

Guthrie Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Mike Simpson on the hiring of Mr. Burkhart: “Jason brings a wealth of secondary administrative experience to our district. His track record from where he has been is one of creating a positive learning culture aimed at school improvement. Having varied administrative experiences at both the junior high and high school level with a diverse student population prepares him for some of the challenges of this position. His enthusiasm and excitement will be contagious.”
